((((((Meg))))))) and ((((((LadyX))))))))
Hugs and thanks to you both.
I'm checking out for the evening. Hoping yours is blessed.
Mama always said 'bout you:
"Clever is as clever does..:))"
However, I do recall when you cut the rope holding up the rubber tire
we used to swing out over the creek, just as I was at the zenith --
Evenin' ladies.
I remember when I was a young pup stickin' my fingers in Mom's old Maytag. In no time at all, it was up to my armpit, the rollers continuing to roll along.
Skerd to death, knowin' I'd prolly get in trouble for stickin' my hand in there, I hollered and screamed "MOM!!!"
Now, the Maytag was in the basement, Mom was upstairs, door closed, and she was hard of hearing. Don't know if she actually heard my screams, or if it was time to run the clothes through the wringer, but nonetheless, she came down the stairs, ran over and flipped the lever to stop the wringer, them gave a strong jerk on the bar on top to release the tension of the rollers.
She was my hero. I ended up with a sore arm in a sling, My ego was flattened - I wasn't as tough as I thought.
Those sure were great washing machines, though.
Dansy, your Layout was Great; I Loved that Picture of the Beast Wearing the Arafat Hat! LOL! This is a Neat Thread!
(((((((Maggie)))))))
They did the job, all right.
The last one I had like that was in 1955 in a house we rented in Chincoteague, Virginia, right on the bay, where we lived when my second son was born. It was an old one built by a sea captain that had been divided in the middle, from top to bottom, to rent to two families.
That son returned there a few years ago, located someone who knew the history to be sure it was the right one, and took movies in front of it with his family for me to see!
Now fully renovated back into beautiful condition, it was no such thing in my day. The only heater was in the living room, and supposed to warm the uptairs by heat rising through floor grates -- but there was NO insulation in the house and around the windows, and cold air coming in made it 'warm' only within a few feet of the stove. The first few months we put the bed and crib in the living room!
At any rate, the kitchen floor definitely slanted downward toward the main part of the house, and the washing machine was by the back door. I must mention it leaked a tad!!
Why, that was an "asset," getting to mop the floor and keep it and the clothes clean all in the same day..:))
Hi. Miss Kitty - glad we're here at the same time for a change!
Me, too! Hopefully, I'll have more Time to Freep when I don't have to Run Back and Forth to the Country almost everyday, LOL! But I Read all your Posts every Night as I'm Lurking on Free Republic, and you are in my Prayers Daily, sweet Lady.
I don't know......We had one that was left in our apartment when we moved into it while we were in Germany. I washed many loads with it, but didn't exactly enjoy it. I was terrified of the wringer! But washers were hard to come by over there, and the German ones were really expensive, especially to a Staff Sgt.'s family. We even shipped it home when we came back to the States and used it for a while until we could get a "real" one! Wish I had kept it though--it would have made a neat planter! LOL!
Home to me always was wherever the Lord sent me, though, whether temporary or not. Figured I always was just where He wanted me to be for a time...
We never really "own" anything, when you think about it - -
everything is His!
After midnight here, and need to go to bed.
Sweet dreams, Miss Kitty ... God bless you and your husband.
God Bless you and your Husband, dear Maggie. Sleep Well in the Hand of the King of kings.
