I just found out that Joan's mother was ill and in the hospital in Denver. When she was well enough to visit the judge she flew out to Chicago. She had two walkers. The bastards who killed her must be caught.

Matthew Hale might just be the least likely suspect. He's smart enough to earn a law degree so he'd also be smart enough to wait until after sentencing to try something like this. He probably has no chance of ever stepping out of jail now. Also since he's in solitary confinement and prison calls are generally recorded and/or monitored, it would be extremely difficult to organize the attack.
50% odds it's a street criminal. 50% it's a criminal from another case.

I think a more likely option than either of your two is that one of Hale's followers (many of them ex-cons--I think half the "chapters" he claims are prison-based) simply took it on himself to do the job that he knew Hale wanted done. Just as in the Byrdsong shooting spree, Hale's hands are, technically, clean.
You are correct, she was the judge in the George Ryan License Selling Scandal, but she was also the judge on several nasty drug trials and these murders were done execution style, one bullet to the back of the head of both vicitims.
If he has renounced Judaism and become Episcopalian, how is he still Jewish? He dropped the "itz" from Lefkowitz...

Well .. changing your name doesn't make you less Jewish. If you're born Jewish, you're Jewish - no matter what you change your name to. Many Hollyweird stars changed their names for the purpose of disguising their Jewish heritage.
As for renouncing Judaism - what proof do you have that he has done that - some public statement ..?? And .. just to attend any prostestant church wouldn't require a public renounciation of Judaism.
I know of a Pastor right here in San Diego who is a Messianic Jew. He never has renounced his Jewish roots - he's only acknowledged his belief in Jesus as THE Savior.
The Chicago Tribune today reports that Hale is under the sort of guard that is generally given to terror suspects post 9/11. Visits from his parents twice a month with FBI listening and that's it. This sort of guard for Hale was ordered by John Ashcroft personally.
The best answer to the eternal "who is a Jew" question I have ever seen is:

The "who is a Jew" topic has been beaten to death on FR, and as you seem to point out, is irrelevant. As a crime victim, a Jewish parent, or grandparent, or even just a Jewish sounding name might be enough, irrespective of his faith.
I guess I'm just old-fashioned.

Thank you for the response. It makes one hell of a lot of sense to question any judge appointed by Klintoon and or Jimuh peanut-brain carter. In most cases they are liberals with an attitude, who interpret the law for the left's agenda. Hale's problem was hate, which in the end provided for his present nemesis. Hale as the leader of the WCOTC, was to be made an example. This was to serve as a warning to any other white milita or supremist group. SJackson, wouldn't it be nice if we could all be (Americans) no hyphens or other differentations, with a dedicated service for," God and Country"? I hope one day it will be that way for the betterment of America. NSNR
Well .. he may have disguised his Jewishness because of his wife (and because he really did not practice his religion) - and because of business.
I knew Judge Lefkow back in my Chicago days. I had cases before her when she was a magistrate, and knew her and her husband personally. Yes, she was elevated to the bench by Klinton, but she was a magistrate during the Reagan and Bush 41 years. I always found her to be thoughtful and careful when deciding a case, even when she went against my side. From my own experience in her courtroom, she never let politics enter into her decisions, and always treated the parties before her with professionalism and courtesy, many times in cases where I would have been ass-kickin' mad (that's a legal term, you can look it up).
Personally, you could not find a kinder, nicer, more pleasant person. One example of what kind of person she is: when her kids were small, she spearheaded establishing a low-cost daycare facility in the Federal building so she do her job and see her kids during breaks and lunch, and be around them as much as possible while still doing her job. This enabled lots of court workers and other folks in the Loop, including my wife and me, to do the same.
Judge Lefkow is exactly the kind of person you would hope to see in the federal judiciary. She was as dedicated to her family as anyone you will ever meet. Please pray for her and her family in the face of this horrible crime.
Or it could be one of his follower's who did this independently, without orders from Hale. Some nutty woman from the Manson family tried to kill Gerald Ford back in the mid-70's; and though she did it in Manson's name, there was never any proof that he asked her to do it.
Another thing; you have to have some intelligence to pass the bar exam; and some state exams are more difficult than others, but it really requires memorizing a lot of case law more than innate brilliance. My husband is a lawyer who passed the NY bar exam, one of the most difficult. A great guy, but no genious. And I've met plenty of lawyers through him, and you'd be surprised how average most of them are.
Just a little observation. No offense meant to lawyers in general.
Hales a bad guy. He's also a criminal, convicted of the attempting to murder a judge. That's why he's going to jail. Is that a "warning" to white supremacist's? If they've got criminal intent, you bet it is. Just as it's a warning to anyone else with felonious intentions. Irrespective of their hyphens.
What the fact that the judge is a Clinton appointee has to do with the murder of her mother and husband is still beyond me.
He didn't ask anyone to kill her. An FBI informant suggested it and he said he would work within the law, you do anything you want. I wouldn't put it past his followers to have done this, but I hope they don't focus on that to the exclusion of other possibilities. Given the notoriety of the case with Hale, another killer could have done it knowing they would focus on hate groups. Pretty smart if that was the case. May the killer fry for taking the lives of two helpless people. May the Lord lay His healing hands on this lady, her family and friends.
