American Liberals Have Lost Touch With Reality

Gen. George S. Patton once said, “Watch what people are cynical about, and one can often discover what they lack.”

Those on the left seem to be cynical about everything to do with the war on terrorism. I think if Patton were alive today he would say liberals lack the courage to fight the enemy and would slap a few of them around.

Liberals are also cynical about the way the military handles terrorist prisoners. I am sure Patton would tell liberals they lack the basic understanding of warfare and prisoner handling and challenge them to spend a few days on the front line to see how things are really done. Then he would slap a few of them around once again.

A soldier’s job is to kill the enemy, or as Patton also said, “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.” The sooner liberals understand the true meaning of war, the sooner we can make the “other bastard” die for his country.

To prove how out of touch liberals are with reality these days look at the uproar that occurred because of comments made by Lt. Gen. James Mattis. Gen. Mattis, who has commanded troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, was recently speaking at a forum in San Diego about strategies for the war on terror.

Mattis said, “Actually, it’s a lot of fun to fight. You know, it’s a hell of a hoot. ... It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right upfront with you, I like brawling.” Gen. Mattis is the kind of general I want leading our troops into battle. Marines are there to kill the enemy, not coddle them. They need a leader like Gen. Mattis.

But, of course there was uproar by liberals. Jeff McCausland, director of the Leadership in Conflict Initiative at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa claimed that, “Clearly for an officer from any service to say that publicly is unprofessional and inappropriate and sends a terrible message to subordinates.” I disagree; I think the general’s troops loved the message sent and probably feel the same way.

What do liberals think Marines are doing in Iraq? Would liberals rather Gen. Mattis had said, “I hate to fight...I think war is much too bloody...I think we should stay home and polish our nails and listen to show tunes.”

Somehow, I think liberals would.

Liberals, especially young liberals seem to forget that war is a very nasty thing. It is not a panty raid on a women’s dormitory at a local college. In battle, the enemy has one thing in mind, he wants to kill. War is a contest of kill, or be killed and it is not nice.

The closest most leftists have come to battle is fighting police at various protests in the United States and around the world. Their idea of warfare is yelling obscenities at local police and hurling the occasional rock or bottle. A liberal’s badge of honor is spending a few hours in jail after being arrested at a protest in Seattle or Washington, DC and getting his or her mug shots taken.

Yet, even with their lack of experience in real warfare, liberals seem to think they have all the answers about how the military should treat captured terrorists and how best to fight the war on terrorism. Some liberals even claim that the US Constitution protects terrorists.

I think they have a lot to learn.

First, prisoners captured in Iraq are not leftist protestors staging a sit-in on the steps of a Federal Building singing “Give Peace a Chance”. Prisoners in Iraq have not studied “Activism 101”and have never heard of Martin Sheen, Janeane Garofalo or Al Franken.

They are terrorist thugs who behead captured men and women showing no remorse in the act. They are murderers trained by Al-Qaeda or other terrorist organizations. They want to kill American men, women and children. They have no rights.

Prisoners captured in Iraq are not handled with kid gloves and gently placed in a paddy wagon like liberal protestors arrested in Seattle. They are trying to kill Americans when captured and would love nothing better than to kill their captor and escape to fight another day. Captured terrorists should be treated like a rabid dog waiting to bite its handler and thrown in a cage.

I really do not care how inhumanely we treat the captured terrorists being held at Guantanamo Bay or Abu Ghraib prison. They are murderers and thugs. I think terrorists should lose all human rights once they take the path of terrorism. A tough approach is the only deterrent these killers will understand.

If making a terrorist wear a pair of women’s panties on his head will help save one innocent life by gaining information on future terrorist acts, it is worth the effort. I think Victoria Secret and Fredrick’s of Hollywood should contribute panties to the war effort. Maybe we would get a few more confessions.

I think Gen. Mattis would agree. I know Gen. Patton would.

“American Liberals Have Lost Touch With Reality”, is that why “Democrats Far Outnumber Republicans in Audience” at the Academy Awards?

I think it's long since time we started trying, and executing, some of these "people" at Gitmo. That would also send a tough message. I wish we would have started that long ago and I don't understand what we are waiting for.

It has been fun the last (10) years watching liberals come completely unhinged. It's like watching a circus freak show for free. Nothing these folks say makes any sense. Absolutely nothing.

I can only hope and pray the liberal meltdown will continue here in Illinois. This state is close to becoming another California, with thug Democrats and a few RINOs running everything.

A good start would be marching off Mayor Daley in handcuffs. That corrupt piece of sh-t is an absolute disgrace.

I've been saying this for years. On the surface, the struggle in the world is between Islam and Western civilization, left and right, etc., but at the base, it's between reality and fantasy.

What is and what "should" be according to the "liberals".

I vote for reality.

This is a liberal repeat of Vietnam. Most who took up the cause of the left, and many of weaker conviction who fled to Canada, did so because they were cowards. Who can blame them for not wanting to go to the other side of the world and fight an illusive enemy in a steaming jungle? I don't blame them, but it had to be done and done by their fellow Americans.

Yet, few who did go wanted to either. Courage is being afraid and doing it anyway. Cowardice is giving in to fear. Thank God for our brave soldiers who conquered their fears.

Most of the cowards were not only cowards but liars to boot. They couldn't admit their cowardice so they created a bugger bear to blame instead - the immoral and evil war in Vietnam and their own country for holding the mirror up to them.

No matter what they say or how the justify it, they were just plain scaredy cats.

The same is true of the left today. They don't have to fear the draft but they don't want to be stigmatized for not enlisting either. So they repeat their Vietnam era experiences and put the blame elsewhere. They claim the moral high ground to hide their moral emptiness.

Yeah, I too am sick of Illinois. This state is worthless as far as I am concerned. I can't wait till I graduate college and move to Indiana, or Texas. Indiana would be a better fit, though!

This was a great article. I wish someone had the balls like Patton did to tell liberal to their faces that they don't love the country. Patton and MacArthur would have shown these liberal pieces of trash who boss is! Ann Coulter can't do it by herself anymore.

You make a fundamental mistake in your assumptions:

Prisoners captured in Iraq are not handled with kid gloves and gently placed in a paddy wagon like liberal protestors arrested in Seattle. They are trying to kill Americans when captured and would love nothing better than to kill their captor and escape to fight another day.

While there are some that fit into this category, the vast majority of the prisoners we are dealing with are either people who were arrested on suspicion without any solid evidence, or were arrested for relatively minor crimes such as theft, etc.

Furthermore, even if you look at the worst of the worst, torture is both morally wrong, and technically ineffective. Torturing somebody just gets them to tell you what you want to hear, not what is true. If you were tortured for long enough, you would confess to being a member of Al Qaeda. It's dehumanizing for them and for those who enact the torture.

You may say that they don't deserve better than that, and perhaps you are right. Having said that, it is vitally important for us to be better than them. How can we go around the world demanding that people end human rights abuses when we will readily do the same thing given the chance?

Arab News published this???

Yes. It originally appeared in NewsMax on February 10. Now today it is in the openly spiteful official Saudi English language media outlet, the Arab News. The Arab News had no need to publish a comment with this article. It was obviously picked up by the Arab News in the hopes of increasing their readers' hatred of the USA.

This was a great article.

You think the Arab News is really going to publish a great article by an American conservative? This is a terrible article making us look bad, which is exactly why they published it.

This has been an extremely bad month for middle-eastern dictators and those who make a living by sucking up to them. This is only one of several articles in the current Arab News that tries to make democracy and/or the republican form of government look bad. Between the birth of free Lebanon and the Iraqi elections, they must be deeply depressed. Yet they are too cowardly to attack us us in a fully open manner, preferring indirection such as picking up this article.

Hey people, while this 'self syndicated' writer has launched such a brave keyboard offensive against liberals he has actually done much to endanger us. This article will recruit more enemies to the cause of fighting our soldiers, killing innocents and perhaps even attacking the US directly. Furthermore it DOES NOT represent what decent and moral Americans want to strive for. It represents, instead, the lowest and most disturbing morals that certain elements love to rant about.

We are better than our enemies. We do not need to torture people to win the war.
