How sad. Whatever happened to communication?
It certainly is overwhelmingly lefist. But I'm of the opinion, along with Michael Medved, that Conservatives should engage the culture instead of lamenting it. Look for the good stuff and if possible make conservaive themed movies. It's not as elite and closed off as some people think. People like Kevin Smith made movies on his credit card!
Morgan Freeman is one of those very rare actors who can lose themselves totally in their role. There are terrific actors, like Kevin Spacey or going back in history, Clark Gable or Humphrey Bogart. True greats. But you always knew that they were themselves playing a part, at least in the back of your head.
However, Morgan Freeman is one of those very rare actors who, when you watch, you completely believe that he is the character on the screen, and that's quite rare. He's got that ability, in every role I've seen him play. Some actors can "hit it" in a very special role, like Sir Ian McCallan, when he played Gandalf. I actually wanted to know how Peter Jackson got Gandalf to play himself in the movies! But in many of his other roles, he's still the wonderful actor playing a part. Very few actors could do this in just about every role. Sir Lawrence Olivier, Gary Cooper, and yes, Johnny Depp!
Morgan Freeman is one of those very rare actors, who makes you forget that he's acting.

Murder is murder. Hliiary's character didn't have the right to murder herself, either through her own means or through a proxy.

It was propoganda, pure and simple, like Cider House Rules. It's like watching Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will, which glorified Nazism, or Birth of a Nation, which glorified the KKK...and as such, it was anti-Catholic.
It didn't matter that he was a so-called Catholic, any more than Kerry is Catholic or Ted Kennedy or the Maryknoll Marxists.

Thanks. I should say that I don't begrudge anyone creating art that reflects their beliefs. After all if you or I made a film it would reflect ours. If some liberal tried to make a conservative themed film it would be pandering junk. I can appreciate Art that puts forward a moral vision with which I disagree. Have a good night.
This is the interesting part. Why should they? Let's look at the New media as an example. It seems to me that people like you would have been saying that conservatives should just jump into ABC, NBC, CBS, and try to change the culture. But what happenned? THE INTERNET!
Now let's see if this "American art form" of Hollywood will survive, or something else might overtake it. Interesting eh?

Well the success of Fox News proves that there was room and a need for an alternative voice. Anyone can make a movie. Richard Linklater is based in Texas. Kevin Smith is based in New Jersey.
I haven't seen "Million Dollar Baby," and I don't know if I will. But Morgan Freeman has been excellent in every role I've ever seen him play. Even that stinker, Costner's "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves."

Norm as in the predominant voice. Desription not an evaluative judgement. These days I get my news from Fox.
As I recall, the book was alot scarier than the movie, though it's been at least 30 years since I read it. I recall that the book was quite dark and scary for a young child. I think that Johnny Depp may do a really wonderful job in that movie.

Yes, I agree that Clint doesn't explicitly "glorify" euthanasia, but the audience is still left reeling emotionally, and the temptation to sympathize with his character is overwhelming. There is no negative comment on his killing of Maggie.
The viewer is left without any contrary view. The film simply ends. The viewer has little chance to condemn his actions, since the preceding two hours of the film has succeeded in generating intense sympathy for Frankie and Maggie. How can the viewer feel anything except admiration as he leaves the theatre, or at least say to himself, "I understand where he's coming from."
Again, subtle propaganda as only a movie can accomplish.
