How much was the payoff?

I still want to know who actually forged the docs. I'm only mildly interested in the stooges who handled them afterward.

You and Dan Rather. He really wants to be the one to "break this story." Maybe he can team up with OJ who's busy looking for Nicole's killer.

Which flawed report? The Dan Rather catastrophe? Or the cover-up that followed, four months later, and blamed everybody but Dan and the execs?

"The official, who had been briefed on the matter, insisted on anonymity because it concerned an employee's contract.

The more we hear about the way CBS has handled this thing, the more it looks like high-level Dims were involved with the fake docs. There seems to be a large amount of shoveling to cover tracks. The FEAR is palpable.

wo of the three CBS journalists who had refused for more than a month to resign over a disputed broadcast concerning President Bush's National Guard service have now submitted their resignations.

In a statement released by her lawyer last night, one of the journalists, Mary Murphy, senior broadcast producer of the Wednesday edition of "60 Minutes," which broadcast the report, said, "CBS News and I have reached an amicable resolution." She added: "During my time at CBS News, I enjoyed wonderful working relationships with many talented and dedicated journalists. I wish my good colleagues well, and I look forward to moving on in my career."

That would never work. Statistics show that little serious investigation occurs at 19th holes around the world. I could be wrong....;)

Precisely.

The story of the resignations at CBS is not complete until we know how much was the agreed payoff for each of the people who resigned under fire.

You want "complete"?

How about a tell all expose of what was going on inside of CBS that led to the story being pursued for 15 years. How about those details?
Of course then we could contrast the dogged pursuit of that story vs that of the Swift Boat Vets claims. And the failure of John sKerry to sign Standard Form 180 to this date and no press coverage of that?
Where do you stop for the "complete" story?

As I said when we last convened on this subject, CBS will pay anything to end this out of the view of the public. They have to, but if this is a payoff that amounts to hush money for covering a criminal act. I can't see how this can be kept out of the light.

And now if the CBS settlements are larger than one would think was reasonable, which they probably are, this would just fuel the fire.

The criminal act, which is known is the dissemination of forged government documents which is a felony in the state of Texas. If CBS, knowing them as forgeries, reproduced and disseminated these documents then the criminal intent would proceed to all of those who were involved.

As in normal scandals, its not the initial act that often is the problem but the cover up, and CBS is seemingly in full cover up mode. If CBS were a government entity, this would signal the feeding frenzy. Are we going to get the signal? How can this settlement be exposed to the light of day?

CBS destroyed the "independent inquiry" to protect corporate officials. I wonder if Sarbanes-Oxley might be the ticket to open this rotting mess. It seems like the senior executives are engaged in a cover-up that would have to have implications to the shareholders. Anyone a Viacom share holder?
