Wichita police have just announced that a "briefing on the BTK investigation" at 10 a.m. Saturday in the City Council Chambers will include "distinguished guests" Mayor Carlos Mayans, City Council members, Sedgwick County District Attorney Nola Foulston, Kansas Bureau of Investigation Director Larry Welch, Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Kevin Stafford and Congressman Todd Tiahrt.
The announcement followed an afternoon of police activity in Park City.
A Wichita Police bomb unit truck, two SWAT trucks, FBI and ATF officers and other law enforcement were deployed in Park City near the intersection of I-135 and 61st Street North.
The activity has been centered on a residential area north of the fast-food restaurants and other businesses that line 61st street.
Neighbors said law enforcement vehicles began appearing about 11 a.m., a bomb crew arrived about 11:30 a.m., and the area was filled with officers by noon.
A woman on the block says one of her neighbors was taken away by officers early in the day.
There was no explosive, police confirmed, and at 6 p.m., the bomb squad truck pulled out.
In downtown Wichita this afternoon and evening, several uniformed officers have been standing outside Wichita City Hall, including on the top of the parking garage adjacent to the building, which houses the Police Department.
