<< ... the Philippines is ...located north of Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia in the Pacific Ocean ... >>

Indonesia and Malaysia last time I flew back and forth among them all several thousand times for a living were nowhere near the Pacific Ocean and were essentially West of the Philippines.

And last time I checked, also, [And this despite that it's easy to harbor serious doubts about the left coast, most of the East and Hawaii] every American State was [And likely, whaddyah reckon, as a prerequisite to Statehood?] ... um ... American.

And the Philippines was .... um .... foreign.

The best reason I know of to say no to statehood for the Philipines, leaving aside all issues of economics, ethnicity and religion, is simply distance. The Philipines are simply to far away.

The Filipinos who want statehood only want it for what it will bring them. What they would bring the U.S. is a heap of trouble. Forget it, unless we can buy the territory without the Filipinos.

I am in favor of it. I am in favor of any state or country joining the United States or leaving the United States by the will of their people. This would spread freedom and democracy across the globe, but would require a return to a true Republic. Somethign like:

It would require a return to a Republic because poorer states might join just for our Welfare benefits. This needs to be eliminated.

For what! That place is a RAT hole. Who would want it. The people there may emulate us but they don't respect or like us. Remember the whole thing about our bases there. They couldn't wait to kick us out but then pined over the lose of all that U.S. money that would be leaving with our forces. And let's not forget that scavengers descended on those abandoned bases and stole everything that wasn't nailed to the floor. Let them wallow in poverty. They can prosper using their own resources just like everyone else. U.S. adoption would only mean 80 million more welfare cases and unappreciative mouths to feed. Thanks but no thanks. IMHO.

If we're going to play Adopt-a-Nation, I would like the powers-that-be to consider Monaco.....no welfare to speak of, sunny, nice marinas, an operetta-like monarchy and a great income-producing casino.

I mean, why shop around for third and fourth world orphans when there's better to be had?

After "300 years in a convent and 50 years in Hollywood," I can't imagine why the people of the Philippines would want to have anything to do with the idiotic circus we like to call Washington D.C.

No more states. We still have to figure out how to give Puerto Rico back to Spain and Massachusetts back to England. ;)

This will happen right after Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Viet Nam become states. I have spent a lot of time in the Philippines and love the Filipino people. I once ran for Mayor of Subic City. The Filipinos will never vote for statehood.

“...the Philippines should be admitted as three separate states...”

Make it seven. At least 0’Dumbo will have been right once, assuming he’s been there.
