Prayer Request for my 17 year old Daughter's Safe Return (Update: Found Safe)
February 20, 2005 | me

Posted on 02/20/2005 12:25:37 AM PST by Sunshine55

Please pray for my 17 year old daughter's safety, that the Lord is watching over her and protecting her from harm. I just filed a missing persons report with the Columbus Police Department about an hour ago, when it became apparent that I was not going to get the usual call from her letting me know where she was.

I left for work at 10:45 am and the last thing she said was that she was going to get her hair cut. No e-mail, no phone calls to me throughout the course of the day, which struck me as odd, because we hadn't had any harsh words and life seemed to be great. I got off work at 9 pm and she wasn't home, which isn't unusual because she spends alot of time with Young Life. Hours passed, no phone call. By 2 I was nearly hysterical with worry. I have left messages on her friends' cell phones hoping for a call back. I am sorry to say that I was not able to give the officer a description of what she was wearing, only a picture.

This is SO out of character for this young lady. She's always been the responsible one, even though she has been suffering from Senior-itis this year and has tested the boundaries to the limit. I am so frightened thinking of the possibilities here that I don't know where to turn, and I would appreciate your prayers tonight. I am hoping that perhaps she told me she'd be sleeping over tonight at a friend's house, but I have racked my brain, and frankly, I just don't remember any conversation like that taking place. (I haven't had a day off in 3 weeks.)

I was the best kid my parents ever had until I hit my later teens. OUCH, I can't even think about it now, and it's 32 years later. At least I went on to become a great daughter once again.

I'm pretty sure teens brains disappear or something, and then grow back more normal again.

Duh...I got away from my initial thought and reason for posting to you.

I wonder how many police departments have a sheet or a list readily available to empower frantic parents? Even if a missing person doesn't yet "meet criteria" for investigation or an alert, at least giving suggestions for things to try would be helpful. Instead of the police saying to me to wait another day and call us back if need be, maybe they could add to that by saying, "but hey...wait a minute...have you tried this yet?" I'd bet we could easily come up with a list of at least 30 things, people, places to try for help. When a person is so fightened like Sunshine, she benefits from all of our suggestions, right? And knowing the FReepers are such an awesome resource that so many in the world do not have, have yet to find, etc., the police would be an obvious place where a list of suggestions could be given. Even posted online?

Just sharing an idea. :)

Binge drinking scares me to death, and the good kids who haven't experimented with liquor are most at risk as they don't know what to watch for or their own limits. They think that they're just drinking but they're poisoning themselves. And it doesn't take much to seriously effect a petite female, most of whom eat little.

Wonderful idea,I wonder how we can put this idea out to law enforcement agencies,so it can be implemented.

Do the police departments do this? Has anyone here experienced them reading doen a list of places to try; things to think of?

I am not sure, since I haven't been in this situation ,since my son was 5.

Yes 5,he was playing in front of my apartment where I could keep an eye on him, while I was changing my @ month old daughters diaper.I turned my back for 5 min.and he was gone.
I went looking for him with help from neighbors, but we couldn't find him.
I called the police and they were very kind to me.They send a unit right away.
We found him at a neighboring house, actually the neighbor brought him home.My son was playing with his daughter that was going to Kindergarten with him.I blamed myself the entire time for not making him come into the house with me.
My son never did it again, because the cop put the fear of God into him.The cop also chewed out the neighbor for not contacting me as soon as my son showed up at his house. The only reason he returned my son was because he saw all the commotion.
I always made it a point to ask my kids friends if their parents know where they are,if not I or they will have to call the parents from my house.

It would be nice if all police departments had a list of things to do when a child comes up missing.

One of the girls she was with told me that she had said she wouldn't drive but wasn't going to let anyone else drive her car either, which leads me to one conclusion, that she's passed out at this kid's house. Man, is she in for a surprise

I pray that at least that is where your daughter is Sunshine55, at least you will have found her. I pray.

I pray for your daughter's safe return, and I bet you tan her hide but good when she does get back.

At least, that was my parents' philosophy for dealing with my misdeeds . . . it was one way of showing they were glad I still HAD a hide. ;)

Thinking aloud again:

- call friends
- call non-friends/other classmates. If there is a party, whether they go or not, everyone usually hears about where they will be.
- boyfriend's house
- friends of boyfriend (they might know where the boyfriend is to rule him out)
- call too, and speak to the parents
- if no one picks up, call again after blocking your phone number from a caller id
- access email accounts
- locate diaries
- go through backpacks. Thumb through folders and school books for notes tucked away
- is a purse at home to search
- a personal phonebook
- if it's a child/teenager, email school teachers/call them. The more people looking, the better.

Pinging all my lists on this one. May God be with your daughter and keep her safe and give you comfort and peace until she returns.

Apologies to anyone who got double-pinged.
