Durango - Herb Young turned the telephone off again Tuesday after it rang at 12:40 a.m.
One recent caller had told him that "you should be found dead in a ditch."
Nine out of 10 calls to his house are from "crackpots," he said, ever since a plate of cookies and a case in La Plata County Small Claims Court turned life upside down.

You mean someone reasonable and not hateful?
Young soon figured out who had left the cookies and complained to Taylor's mother, Jill Ostergaard. She said Ostergaard and Lindsey's mother, Martha, offered, "even insisted" on paying almost $900 in medical bills not covered by insurance. But the months dragged on, and the families never sent the money.
"I really tried to settle this out of court four different times," Young says. "I'm not sure where it all went bad."
I smell another lawsuit against the girls pending...
I could care less whether you answer me or not.
With your hateful, name-calling, better-than-thou attitude, that would be preferable.
You disgust me more.
And I'm sure you phoned her calling her those names.
What does that make you?
And your opinions have been been so thought provoking. (not)
Troll.
I'm sure the people at DU miss you.
Actually it would depend on whether I thought the teenagers or their parents really intended to reimburse the money. If they didn't, possibly.
I think the parents could have taught their girls a valuable lesson of responsibility here but they blamed others.
How about harridan? Crotchety? Future homeowner association president?
If you disagree with some, you get called names...just like what happened to the Youngs. See how tolerant some are for other people's opinions?
Actually I'm a reasonable person who thinks the Youngs are getting a raw deal over this.
The possible adjectives are endless.
The important thing is that this "character" is shunned by decent society.
Nutbag...
You're such a kind hearted person. Made any calls to Colorado lately?
Haven't read all these post, but I heard on a local radio station here in Colorado that these people have sue around a dozen times in the past.
Since they had their parents' PERMISSION, what you propose is ridiculous.
I agree with you - I think the Youngs are getting a raw deal as well. I don't agree with the harassment (phone calls, letters, boxes, etc). However, I do take issue with the people that think the girls should've been shot for knocking on the Young's door. Thats unreasonable.
So in reality you are mad at the Youngs because they sued?
How do you think taxpayers end up paying for this one? The money to pay them apparently is coming from people like you who think the Youngs are evil for trying to recoop their expenses -- when they were doing nothing but minding their own businss at home?
Personally, if they were my kids, they would be giving up 1/2 their babysitting/job money for a long time until the debt was paid.
Yeah, I figured you for a trial lawyer.
