WPT to Air Postcards From Buster Episode Withdrawn by PBS
Feb. 9, 2005
For More Information:
Michael Bridgeman, (608) 265-3855
James Steinbach, (608) 263-1232
Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will air the "Sugartime" episode of Postcards From Buster at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27.
"We've reviewed the program and believe it is consistent with Wisconsin Public Television's mission to educate diverse audiences of children and adults," said James Steinbach, director of programming and production.
The episode was withdrawn from distribution by PBS after some objected to content believed to be inappropriate for children. The series producers have made the episode available to stations to air at their discretion.
"We also respect the right of parents to make viewing choices for their own families, so that's why we've scheduled it at a time when parents can decide if and how they want their children to watch the program," Steinbach said.
WPT regularly airs Postcards From Buster at 3 p.m. weekdays. Like all episodes of the series, Steinbach said, "Sugartime" focuses on the children. Postcards From Buster involves a cartoon rabbit traveling around the country and interacting with children and their families. These families are real people, shown in live-action footage, talking about their lives.
The Feb. 27 broadcast focuses on maple sugaring in Vermont where Buster meets children from two families who have two mothers, a situation that has raised objections from some. Steinbach said that most calls to WPT have supported airing the program.
Steinbach said Postcards From Buster is designed to help children understand and appreciate the rich and varied cultures that make up the United States, and to support the language skills of elementary school-age children for whom English is a second language.
Different episodes have profiled children from backgrounds including a Hmong family in Wisconsin.
Buster has met children living in a variety of family structures, including traditional two-parent households, children splitting time between divorced parents, children living with grandparents and children living with single parents.
Beautiful, beautiful State...too bad it's run by liberals...
Good grief! The Feb. 27 broadcast focuses on maple sugaring in Vermont where Buster meets children from two families who have two mothers, a situation that has raised objections from some. Steinbach said that most calls to WPT have supported airing the program.
I sent the following to PBS to express my opinion. Please do a justice to the children of Wisconsin and EVERYWHERE and send your comments to the link above. Thank you in advance from the people of Wisconsin.
I believe the comments expressed by James Steinbach, "We've reviewed the program and believe it is consistent with Wisconsin Public Television's mission to educate diverse audiences of children and adults," are not representative of the parents of Wisconsin. If this episode is aired I assure you that PBS will be blocked on my TV from my 6 and 8 year old daughters. In addition, I will lobby to all parents at my children's elementary to do the same. Very sincerely, . . .
A sick world getting sicker thanks to the stangling scourge of political correctness.
wake up people and smell the conspiracy!
SUGARTIME, as in SWEETNESS NOW, the radical proliferation of homosexuality in america group... the dubious connections are so obvious.... and BUSTER, please, i won't even go into the flaming conotations that that implies...
we must stop this intrusion into our steel trap minds and call this inseptuos episode for what it is... simply a thirty minute abduction of our children's minds that will dilute all we've drummed into them for years and how they will never listen to us again as long as a cartoon rabbit promotes the homosexual lifestyle of raising kids and making syrup... though these lesbians are very attractive lesbians makes no difference, what they are doing is immoral... syrup making should be left to the hetereosexuals, not logcabin lesbians...\sarcasm

Showing carpet-munchers shacking up is not "diversity". It is Sex Ed for toddlers. In other words, it is Pedophilia.
This is what homosexuals call their privacy right -- corrupting the minds of ALL the children, espesically yours.
You signed up today and your first post is defending the homosexual agenda being shoved in our childrens face??
HERE KITTY, KITTY!

Excuse me, but when did someone choosing to have sex with the same gender become "cultural"? Am I just not getting it?

Are you saying you've written Postcards from Buster episodes?
I can certainly testify that the show as a whole is about as pro-family values as you can get.
Apparently, as pro-gay-family as you can get.
Thank you for contacting Wisconsin Public Television. I'm sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with our decision to air this episode of Postscards from Buster at a time that allows parents to make the decision of whether their children see it or not. We feel that our viewers are perfectly capble of making these decisions on their own and it is not our place to censor this type of program. Since the point of the program is to see children around the country in different homes, seeing how they live and what they do, is a good way to be exposed to a multitude of ideas. Many children are not aware of how maple syrup is made and that is the main jist of this program. The parents of any of the children in this series are not the main topics. But as I said, we are airing at a time when the parents can make the decision, not us. Thank you for watching and supporting Wisconsin Public Television. LOL well what did you expect!
You need to not only contact PBS & WPT but our State & Fed. reps. FCC W and tell them you have contacted the above.
To them Were just a bunch of uninformed redneck homophobe hicks. And they know whats best for us. /s
As I said earlier my kids are older. But we still need to watch out & help each other.
It take a village you know!
Come on Wisconsin! We need to be heard!!!
I already made the "executive decision" in my house that the show was to no longer be watched... My wife said my kids (4 yrs/2 yrs) were both mad at first, but they seem to have gotten over it. With the looks of things, a letter to my representatives who fund the station will be the next course of action...
