Two pizza delivery chains refused to send drivers to a public housing community Thursday afternoon, shocking and angering members of the AIDS/HIV Services Group and the president of the local NAACP.
Kathy Baker, ASGs executive director, said that when Dominos and Papa Johns were called to deliver to an HIV testing event at Westhaven public housing community, the businesses responded that they dont deliver to Hardy Drive.
I find it quite inappropriate. Whether its intended or not, it results in socioeconomic and racial discrimination, Baker said. We order pizzas from them all the time and it never occurred to me that it would be a problem. It seemed mind-boggling that they could consider doing that.
Managers from Dominos and Papa Johns said they dont deliver to certain areas of the city out of concern for their drivers safety.

People shouldn't have to put their lives at risk just so you can eat pizza.
If you aren't willing to clean your neighborhood up and you want pizza that bad you can get off your fat arse and go pick it up.
It will be interesting to see Freeper responses on this one. I am all for the pizza chains deciding when and where they deliver.
I live way out in the boonies. Do I get to whine (and maybe sue) because I can't get pizza delivery?
Just charge a $100 dollar fee per delivery for security gaurds and start delivering in a Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

** maybe this is why?
Don't get POed at the pizza folks...look around you and get POed at THOSE folks because they brought it on themselves!!
It's about safety, and many of these drivers are hard working college kids who are also black themselves. NAACP irrelevant as ever.
They don't deliever in my neighborhood either. Too far and not worth the trip.
I think his statement reeks of racial arson. He seems to be making a bold assumption that all of the residents are of a particular race (I doubt it) and that the place is as safe as the rest of the city to deliver to (I doubt it) and that the delivery people have relatively the same incidence of getting stiffed for the tip or taking a stiff tip of a knife. He's the racist, not the business people.
The articles states that an address gets put on a no deliver list when a driver gets robbed and/ar assaulted there. Have they addressed THAT issue that got them put on the list in the first place? It's about safety not discrimination. Not that racial discrimination doesn't happen because it sure does! I don't think that this issue about that.
Exactly. The businesses are not the racists, Baker is for running to the press and trying to make it a racial issue, ala Jesse Jack-Sin.
Of course because his job is all about race and racial issues, otherwise the homerelief line for him. Jack-sin *lol*
For point of reference, the pizza places are NOT refusing to sell pizzas to those customers, they are only refusing to deliver. Delivery is an extra service they are not obligated to perform.
The pizza places should stop delivering altogether and then the Righteous Activists can show everybody how it's done.
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!
Hummer H2?
For Baker: Tell me about a time in the world when there has never been socioeconomic and racial discrimination? If I make one dollar a year more than you do, that's economic discrimination. Do you want everyone to be exactly the same? What about your great God "Diversity"? Or do you want just a certain kind of diversity? Insanity!
The poor 'hood victims...
