Haven't seen his movie. Is Clinton Eastwood pushing assisted suicide?

I haven't seen "Million Dollar Baby," but I've heard liberals on radio say it's great - but they can't share the ending - - but it has something to do with politically "important" issues - - - then there was a hint about assisted suicide.

Now, if liberals love it (and the Oscar nominators like it) and it really does involve assisted suicide, then I would assume it's PRO-assisted suicide. AM I RIGHT? If so, that's a big disappointment - - -

Why do I think this "assisted suicide" must have been sympathetically portrayed - - - ??? Uh, because Hollywood liberals love the movie?

No, because having spent two hours building up the major characters the move was not about to turn one into a murdering prick. But if you're already convinced that the movie has an agenda then why are you wasting time with your questions?

I agree with JennysCool. From everything I have read, I don't think Million Dollar Baby is "pushing" assisted suicide in the way that, say Kinsey pushes omnisexuality, but it certainly doesn't condemn it.

It may very well be a great picture, but, nonetheless, one that I will never pay to watch. If it's on free TV and I have nothing better to do, I'll give it a look. I did the same with Saving Private Ryan and was amazed. Spielberg IS a genius -- just a misguided one.

Clint probably voted for Bush. I don't know, but I think he probably did.

I don't get your point - - does that mean you'll stop voicing disagreement with things you disagree with? Then, you'll stop posting on freerepublic? Stop criticizing Teddy Kennedy?

Thanks. This being Hollywood, and all, you'd think L.N. Smithee would have the last word!

There was an "assisted suicide" in the "Sand Pebbles", but it still was a great flick!

I agree...some of you FR's though well intended are just speculating unless of course you are inside Eastwood's head...if you anyone here is that easily influenced or insulted than simply don't see the movie...don't get into that blood lust book burning thought. You can like it or dislike it but don't judge it without knowing the facts

I saw it and it was a wonderful movie. A real tear-jerker.

Eastwood has already gone on record as saying he had no hidden motive for making the movie except that he liked it.

Sheeesh!

If you liked "Cider House Rules" you're going to love this one.

Hollywood has a formula now, have some interesting characters interact aimlessly until the audience says where are they going with this and then spring the controversial issue. And of course solve it from Hollywood's liberal viewpoint.

no....I'm being facetious in reply to the other poster. They don't like the movie cause it offends them on a moral ground which is OK with me but then what I meant is that they must be offended all the time when they leave the house...ya gotta know the battles that are important to fight and this one is just a non starter to me

Would somebody explain to me why liberals are so in love with the idea of "assisted suicide" (a euphemism for murder, in my book)? Why, for instance, are they so anxious to see Teri Schiavo die?

There is a difference between watching art and political ideology. In Hollyweirds case, 80% of the so-called art is political ideology and as long as we keep supporting it they are going to keep ramming it down our throats. I will never watch this film because I can think for myself on this topic.

I didn't at all get the impression that Clint Eastwood was personally pushing assisted suicide. It's just a movie. And a very, very good one, IMO. One of the best I've seen in a long time.

I can't say too much bad about Eastwood after what he said about Moore. You know he said, "If Michael Moore comes to my house with a camera, I'll F'in kill him".

That was a joke said with Moore in the room.

Not to me. A society's attitude toward life may be the most important aspect of that society - - if a society is anti-life, all the free-market policies in the world can save it, ultimately. Assisted suicide (for the infirm and the "useless eaters") was big with the Nazis. I don't want it to gain traction here - - - but, apparently, Hollywood and the liberal establishment does. So I'm one who's definitely not going to shut up as they try to make it an acceptable idea.

No there isn't. Ideology comes packaged as art all the time.
