Ted Rall has been banned at many freepers (including myself) request. His bile churning, blood boiling crap is more that any reasonable person should have to take. I would rather look at decapitations than read him even by accident. The stopped clock argument doesn't cut it.

A sane immigration policy would reverse these attitudes. We should welcome legal immigrants in much larger numbers. After all, America has always become culturally richer and economically more prosperous as the result of its hard-working newcomers. Legal immigration should become safe, legal and commonplace.

The above is from the article.

I agreed with the article untill I read the above.
Legal immigration is safe,and commonplace.

but to increase it is insane! We must seal the borders and
put a moritorium of 10 years on all Immigration Now.

I don't give a Damn who is hurt by this. Our Culture and security is at risk right Now.

I agree, a moratorium is needed. Hell, I wish we could have a completely open, unguarded border like we used to, but obviously that's not possible under current conditions.

I'm in agreement with you. I expected this sort of typical Liberal drivel of wanting even for immigration even if it is legal.

However, my point is to never pass up the opportunity to demonstrate when your usual opponents agree with your position.

Many on this forum claim that we can't control our borders, so why try. Rall does an excellent job of showing that is not true. One more bucket for our side, whether a guy like Rall (or some Freepers) like it or not.

If you are for open borders, illegal immigration, or just more immigration to the US. I am probably not on your side.

Long story behind the caps lock, including being banned and reinstated (not because of the caps). It was meant to get attention, guess I got it!

Let those from countries that have had a Renaissance, Reformation, and an Age of Reason come into this country. Let others who have advanced degrees in science and engineering enter. Everyone else should find it extremely difficult to get citizenship. We have enough of a native population who can't read, write or think to go around.

Why would I start my own site? Not only did the moderator put this post up (many days later, I might add), free immigration debate has been dominating FR for a couple of days - I couldn't be happier.

If you are interested here's the final letter I sent to JR:

Dear Jim,

I respectfully disagree with you concerning the criteria of what should be allowed to be posted to the Free Republic. Of course, it is your site and you may do with it as you wish, but please consider the following.

Should ideas be measured based on their source or their merit? Liberals are the ones who scoff at ideas because of their source. "That's just Limbaugh" or "Fox News is just an arm of the Republican party" even the FR itself was labeled the "pajamahdeen" when Freeper broke the CBS forged document story.

Reading an article by a liberal does not put the reader "in bed" with the writer. On the contrary, conservatives are better armed the more we have to present arguments in a definitive and logical manner to defeat the ideas of the left.

Also, as I wrote earlier about the article by Rall, sometimes even liberals get it right. In this case, Rall correctly points out that if a poor nation like the former USSR could control its enormous borders with various countries, then the much wealthier US of today is also capable of controlling its much smaller border with Mexico. We have just chosen not to do so. Rush mentioned the other day that in the wake of the successful Iraqi election an ultra-liberal columnist from the Boston Globe wrote that Bush may have been right about Iraq.

What better way to strengthen a position or sway others when respected members of their political persuasion can be cited as in agreement with conservatives? In cases such as these, the source actually facilitates in validating our positions.

While I understand the need to protect the FR from being overwhelmed by liberals that would love to render it a less effective forum, we conservatives are far too intellectually strong to be wounded by a liberal's thoughts or words. As long as the discussion is polite and respectful all parties benefit from the exchange.

Conservatives strengthen their positions and arguments and liberals can be persuaded to the truth.

Thank you,

Yes, I agree, a moratorium or at least a roll-back in the number of allowed immigrants is needed until we can get things stabilized.

It will be interesting [and very important] to see how Congress & the WH works out legislation. I don't think amnesty or anything like it will now be allowed by the public.

Let's see if the DC pols stand with Americans or with law-breaking foreigners.

Legal immigration should become safe, legal and commonplace.

Funny how much that sounds like:

Abortion should become safe, legal, and rare.

More Buzzzzzzzzz words.

Guess he doesn't think any one legally immigrates any more.

Interesting...this ploy will probably work once.

Rall gets it right ? Did you also mention in your letter HOW Rall indicated the USSR & China control their borders ?

Is that what you want the US to do ?
Then it will be Putin declaring " ...Tear Down This Wall !"

Come on stylin, there's a big difference in trying to keep people out compared to trying to keep them in.

The main point is that the border can be controlled. Do we have the will to do it?

I think a combination of erecting a wall (more like the one in Israel), law enforcement toward employers, and not robbing the taxpayers to pay for illegals benefits (SS, school, in-state tuition, welfare) would do the trick.

A wall or razor wire doesn't know it's keeping people in or out and doesn't care.
I do agree something needs to be done. All your suggestions seem reasonable.

Course, reasonable suggestions were made with the WOD...and we are still fighting a losing battle there.
