We've had a lot of new folks join up recently. Welcome aboard, this thread is a gentle reminder of some basic posting guidelines. (And for some of you old timers as well) Please read the follow, and ask any questions. We will all try to help you out.
SEARCH
If it's a breaking news topic, check breaking news first, it's probably already posted.
To avoid duplicate posts, please search before posting. Use the published article title to prevent duplicates. The best method to search is to pick a key word or two from the title. If the article you are posting is, "Dan Rather Memo", start with 'Memo' for the key word. If it is a hot topic, you might want to use two or more keywords, in this case, try 'memo rather'. For an effective search, select 'match all words' and select 'order by post time'.
All non-sourced non-news threads are posted here. This doesnt mean your one thought is a thread by itself. Lately, we have been seeing articles posted that should be comments made on the main article. Your comment/vanity article will be pulled or moved to General/Chat. Vanities should be limited to the mission of Free Republic.
For all of you who have blogs or personal web sites or personal news or opinion or forum sites that you would like to discuss or promote on Free Republic, here's the place to do it.
Our new Bloggers & Personal forum is for:
- Posting from your blog.
- Posting from other peoples blogs.
- Posting your from your personal web site.
- Posting from other peoples personal web sites.
- Promoting your blog.
- Promoting other peoples blogs.
- Promoting your personal web site.
- Promoting your favorite web sites.
- Posting from your favorite outside forums.
- Posting from your favorite lefty forums or sites (DUh and the like).
Click on the "Bloggers & Personal" forum link on the Forums sidebar of the latest posts pages.
Hopefully, this will become a very popular forum for promoting and or discussing blogs and personal opinion/news/forum pages.
Updated FR Excerpt and Link Only or Deny Posting List due to Copyright Complaints
We will pull unlinked threads that might violate the excerpt rules. Don't try to get around it by not posting a link. Please follow the rules so Jim doesn't have hassles.

HTML Sandbox (practice html here, learn new tricks)
Could you tell me how to find, and post to the local message boards? I receive post(pings?) from the Canada board, but I can't find the pages later.
I'm Duh on this one, and it's probably so obvious. Thanks, Fanfan.
In case the Mod doesn't get here soon. Just go to your profile page and click the flag.
Don't feed the Viking kitties too many trolls. Some are starting to look a bit chunky.
All non-sourced non-news threads are posted here.
OK, but then when I click on "Topics" at the top of the page, I see that next to "vanity" it says "All non-sourced non-news threads are posted here." So which is it?
At the top right hand side of the thread page, look for a link that says 'more ...'
Click on that.
You will see a list of options, click on 'my locale'.
Click on the state or country you want.
At the top of that page, you can set your profile to be pinged to any new Canada posts, or, you can just bookmark it and check it periodically. If you set it, that will place the flag on your profiile page, you can click on that flag from your profile page to get to your locale posts.
It depends upon the context of the vanity. Some vanities we leave in news, some not, depending upon current events.
Tell me about it:
Oh sure, kiss up to the mods...(It doesn't work...They zot me all the time. Well they use to. Now I send 'em $$$, beer and star war trinkets and now I can post what I want)
That's not what you told me last night.
There are color options somewhere?? I've been using HTML all this time ;- )
How is one to know?
Pick a key word or two on the subject you want to post and do a search. Also, make sure you check the sidebars first, too.
If that doesn't turn up a prior thread, go ahead and post. You'll find out soon enough if it's a duplicate. ;-}
The mods aren't clairvoyant, but we're generally here at least a couple of hours at a time, each, and we're collectively aware of most threads existence.
Also, lots of times a story gets posted to Breaking News before there's even a news story available to post. If that's the case, post the article right to the running thread and give the mods a heads up. We can copy the story to the top of the thread and improve that thread for everyone.
You can also post the follow on article as a thread if you want, but at this point, it's 'extended news' since the story is already being discussed.
You guys are good.
Hiya Daryl. Daryl here.
Hiya Daryl. Larry had to leave for a bit
Mod 1: Hi Mod.
Mod 2: Hi Mod.
Mod 3: Anyone seen this?
Mod 1: Yeah, pretty funny.
Mod 2: [to Mod 4] Hi Mod
Mods 1 3 and 4: Okay, which one am I now?
;-)
bookmark bump
We're so confused ;-}
For those who don't know, there are multiple moderators sharing the 'Admin Moderator' screen name.
Thanks, It's always sad when Larry leaves.
