MSNBC's "Hardball" host Chris Matthews suggested last night that the high point of President Bush's State of the Union Address - the emotional hug between grateful Iraqi voter Safia Taleb al-Suhail and Janet Norwood, mother of a Marine who died liberating her country - was staged by the White House.
The cynical host apparently first voiced his skepticism during a commercial break. His comments were immediately seized upon by "Hardball" guest, MSNBC contributor Pat Buchanan when the show returned.

Lofty instructional tone?! Me?! Not likely, I do my best explanations with a beer in one hand, totally lowbrow and just trying to be helpful.
Funny you're the seoncd person going off on an emotional rant and deliberately misinterpretting what I'm saying to accuse me of looking ridiculous. You want to know what looks ridiculous? Being unable to address what the person actually said and insisting they're saying something they've specifically refuted multiple times.
Why can't we be united by hatred for Hussein and his ilk? /sentimental moment
i haven't read the rest of this thread... because this POS statement stopped me in my tracks:
>>>1 - they invited the mother of a slain Marine, one who was probably pre-vetted to make sure she actually supported the war <<<
i have news for you.. Marine mothers don't need to be "vetted" to make sure they support the war their sons are fighting in. you know NOT what you are talking about. and i urge you to STFU - your unbelievable ignorance is stripped bare naked.
He could be in white-knockle sobriety or a dry drunk. That would fit with the constant outbursts of anger and the irascibility.
Chrissy was Carter's spinmeister, wasn't he?
We've all seen the parents of dead soldiers the left has adopted, ones that for whatever reason don't support the war. We've also seen people claiming to be parents of dead soldiers that are lying. Of course the person has to be vetted. I garauntee they got at least one "volunteer" who was hoping to sneak past the checks and do some idiotic protest during the speech.
How do you know what was "hoped for"? Sheesh. They probably put them both there because they were going to be introduced and it would make it easy for the cameras to find them.
ROTFL
They are stunned and almost incoherant at brilliance shoved in their faces. Their only recourse is to mock, undermine good with evil. The people are not fooled as they used to be. Hillary "sqrimming" to the "center" is so transparent. We must keep up the fight. We have a real President. He doesn't attack his adversaries, he actually sees them as they are and goes forward. God bless him.
Could have been. I just remember him talking about working and learning from Tip. Probably good thing for MSNBC to watch the furniture and postal machine usage around him.
I don't get the Matthews obsession either. I never watch him. The only thing you can say positively about him is he seems to be holding his audience a little better that CNN and Larry King, but in the great media ratings ocean that puts him a little higher than whale feces.
Jeeeez ,talk about a leap of logic. Featured in the speech and staging an embrace are completely different and if you can't make that distinction your either being intentially obtuse or your on meds
They're projecting again...They cannot accept true sincerity because they themselves are plotters and schemers from the word go. The thing is, they don't seem to realize how petty and cynical they sound every time they open their mouths. I hope they keep it up, though, because they're exposing themselves more and more for who they really are.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
Nothing funny or coincidental about me
being the second person who you believe
has misinterpreted your postings....
on GOOD days, my mind often mirrors Howlin's.
sorry - i haven't "seen" any of those Marine moms - not one.
what's your point? what's with this NEED you have to cheapen this moment that military families hold sacred? why do you feel it's necesary to keep harping that the moment was staged? you have no idea - none- what that moment meant to mothers and wives of those who have fought and still fight in Iraq. NONE. and you seem to want to cheapen it solely for your ego, because you think you are some expert on staged tv moments. how low is that? i find it mud bottom low.
