MSNBC's "Hardball" host Chris Matthews suggested last night that the high point of President Bush's State of the Union Address - the emotional hug between grateful Iraqi voter Safia Taleb al-Suhail and Janet Norwood, mother of a Marine who died liberating her country - was staged by the White House.
The cynical host apparently first voiced his skepticism during a commercial break. His comments were immediately seized upon by "Hardball" guest, MSNBC contributor Pat Buchanan when the show returned.

I also heard Chris say..."We are killing Arabs by the thousands"
He is a commie...and a supporter of terror
Has it been a long time since you lived in the real world? This is the way real and decent people act. They don't need no stinkin staging.
He didn't "try to imply" it, that is exactly what he said. He and Ron P. are saying the Iraqi woman and the Marine mother were not acting out of a genuine basis that our action in Iraq was right and good. He is saying they put on a show.
Nah, I think he learned it as press secretary to Tip O'Neill, who never met a tax (or a bottle of whiskey) he didn't like.
In order to "get that hug"? Gee, what motivated the mother and the Iraqi woman? The allegation is they were told to hug by the WH. Now you're admitting they indeed would have acted spontaneously.
Which they did.
Spontaneity by the people yes, but no spontaneity about those people being in the same place at the say time, and definitely the reaction somebody in the PR department was hoping for.
Nothing cycnical about it, just understanding the reality of our modern made for TV world.
I didn't seen the state of the union speech, but let's for a moment say that it was staged.
So what?
You have an Iraqi woman who was able to vote for the first time in her life hugging an American woman whose son died over there. In what other world would this have happened.
The importance is not the spontaneity of the moment, it's that the moment occurred.
They were both featured in the speech, which was pre-written, more proof of staging. What happened was what they hoped would happen.
I think not enough people here understand jazz, learn about jazz and you'll learn about staged spontaneous acts.
FGS, the more you post the more ridiculous you look.
Sometimes things just happen; and most people aren't as devious as you and the Democrats.
They were both featured in the speech, that IS and introduction by the administration.
Are you Chris Matthews?
Bet Chrissy Matthews believes that Hillary is sincere.
Tells me that (s)he wouldn't be able to tell true sincerity if it kicked him(er) in the backside.
The Marine's mother told Diane Sawyer this morning that she did not know about the Iraqi woman until she heard President Bush introduce her during his speech.
Howlin, you got it all wrong. The president's people ORDERED this woman, who had just lost her son, to hug the Iraqi lady. I'm sure there's a memo somewhere proving this. "After standing for applause, you must hug the Iraqi woman. We've been planning this for weeks. Don't let us down!"
(sarcasm off)
***You're right. The serious of the charge itself should be more than enough, if you apply the same rules to the Left that they apply to us.***

Chris Matthews is also a Transvestite Necrophiliac.
I too have no proof, but that's irrelevant and believe an investigation is still in order. After all, that's a pretty serious charge.
Its fun playing leftist games :-)
Thanks for setting me straight; as I am sure you know, I have trouble with this type of thinking -- worst first!
Never mind all that!
