Stun Gun Used On Woman With Metal Pole
ABC Denver ^ | February 2, 2005

An unidentified 27-year-old woman was subdued with a Taser gun in Golden Tuesday night after police said she swung a metal pole at them.

Police were called to the 100 block of Pinecone Street at about 8:40 p.m. on a report of a woman hitting a car with a metal pole.

Police confronted the woman and ordered her to drop the pole. The woman refused and continuing to swing the metal pole over her head, police said. That's when officers used a Taser stun device to take her into custody.

A witness reported that the pole was originally holding a birdfeeder and the woman took the pole and birdfeeder from another yard. The witness said she drove after the woman and asked her to return the birdfeeder and pole, but the woman broke the birdfeeder off the pole and began hitting the witness' car with it.

The witness reported that her car was hit about 30 times with the pole.

Felony charges are pending against the suspect, according to police. They did not indicate what the pending charges are, or release the suspect's name.

How much you wanna bet she was swinging the pole over her head to take another crack at the car, and not swinging at the Police? No way to know for sure, because the Boys in Blue will have their stories straight by the end of the day. But I will bet you dollars to donuts that this woman was Tasered to prevent her from taking another crack at an automobile.

Tasers are like a remote control for cops. When somebody is being obnoxious, you just want to hit the "OFF" switch. I guess they could have shot her, though, so you have to give them credit for that.

If only George Bush had signed the Assault Birdfeeder Law, none of this would have ever happened.

If this would have been Denver cops I might have agreed with you but Golden? I haven't heard of them being overly aggressive like Denver but who knows. From the story it sounds like she got what she deserved.

Sorry, but if a person is acting violently and the police tell the person to stop, without result, the person deserves suffering the means of being subdued. I personally don't see how cops are as tolerant as they are with all the violent perps out there ready and willing to kill them. If the lady was just screaming or something like that, it's a different story; but brandishing a potentially deadly weapon and being oblivious to commands to stop is not a sane reaction.

If only she had attacked an SUV. No jury would ever convict her.

Much welcome and thank you - I spent 24 years in the Air Force and was never really in harms way. Cops are always in harms way and I have told folks that I couldn't do what they do - I would be far too likely to overreact. You guys have my respect.

If somebody is just whacking on a car with a pole, the Police should not Taser her. That's when they should just stand back, talk to her, and let the situation resolve itself peacefully. She could completely dismantle that automobile using that pole, and she should still not be Tasered. That level of force is not appropriate to prevent somebody from damaging property, but rather when she is being a hazard to herself, others, or the Police.

This woman getting Tasered for whacking a car is not "getting what she deserved". It may be satisfying to see the Police ZOT! idiots, but it is not right. What she deserves is to be arrested, tried, convicted and face punishment for the appropriate offense.

You are a moron.
Why should the officers fight with the woman and probably sustain injury? Is it really better to have injured officers than have a situation resolved without injury? Tasers are very beneficial. Yes, officers may employ them too soon in some cases, but few people are sustaining injuries. So far, most of the deaths that have occurred have been in people with significant drug and alchol abuse history.
Besides, should we let the woman beat the car until she is tired? We would then see your next comment as: The cops just stood around and did nothing.
Moron.

She was committing a crime - malicious destruction of property - and even if she wasn't attacking the police as you're assuming, the police are duty-bound to put a stop to criminal acts committed in their presence.
