Have you tried video.google.com ? A bit limited, but cool nonetheless.
What's the e-mail address?
There is an insert you can give out. Let me try to find it.
Bump.
No. That's a new one on me. I was reading some of the blogs floriduh voter was talking about. I'm in awe of these people, and of all of you.
Question: Have physicians conducted brain wave scans? How many, how often, and under what conditions - music, etc.? All I've seen is the one x-ray.
Thanx for trying. :)
I believe they have. I don't think any doctors have changed their opinions based upon them, though. The doctors who would call Terri PVS even if she punched them in the nose ("obvious reflex") say they show she's PVS, and the ones who say that PVS patients don't vocalize in response to familiar people's voices say they show she's clearly not PVS.
Thanx. I'll check back later.
Trying to remember back, isn't Greer Terri's surrogate?
btw, your clever post on Portia made me drag out my Complete Works of Shakespeare. But I haven't gotten around to reading Merchants of Venice yet.
A diagnosis of PVS is in a sense hard to prove; easy to disprove. There are certain things a scan of a non-PVS person would often show, and a scan of a PVS person would never show. The presence of such things would contradict a finding of PVS, even though their absense would not necessarily imply one.
I don't know how long the original unedited videos were, but unless one were shooting hundreds of hours of video time, I don't think the chance reactions from a PVS patient would appear as purposeful as what's shown on the video.
Trying to remember back, isn't Greer Terri's surrogate?
Michael is Terri's guardian, though Greer also claims to represent her interest notwithstanding that the statutes explicitly forbid a judge from playing such a role excetpt in cases where the ward is a relative.

Well, Act IV Scene 1.
Maybe it's advocate, not surrogate. Near the beginning, there was a man who overlooked Terri's interests but Michael?? dismissed him?
Thanks for your help.
A guardian ad litem, Richard Pearse.
Basically, the idea is that a guardian ad litem will oppose anything that a guardian wants to do that might conceivably go against the interests of the ward; the guardian must prove by a preponderance of the evidence that his actions are in fact in the ward's best interest.
Unfortunately, guardians ad litem tend to harass good guardians (imposing considerable time and legal expense) while not acting as a terribly-effective check on bad ones. The difficulty is that while guardians ad litem are allowed access to a ward's private files, they are extremely limitted in their ability to interact with other people who might have interests related to the ward.
There are reasons for this; without such restrictions, there would be very little protection for a ward's privacy. Unfortunately, the restrictions put a barrier between those with the authority to look for 'fishiness', and those who would know what to look for.
Of course, since Judge Greer allowed Michael to unlawfully fire Terri's guardian ad litem because he was getting too nosy of his own initiative, that makes the guardian ad litem even less of a check on lawbreaking in this case.
Merchant of Venice is one of the few works of Shakespeare I have read in its entirety, but quite a while ago.
On Tuesday, February 22, 2005, the Courts have decided that Terri's feeding tube be removed for the THIRD time.
If you don't have time to call all of the numbers, at least call one number.
For any "newbees" to this thread, here are the numbers to call. Ask them to save Terri Schiavo.

Is there a surrogate for Terri?
As for the statutes: 765.103 Existing directives.--Any advance directive made prior to October 1, 1999, shall be given effect as executed, provided such directive was legally effective when written.
Oral directives are also mentioned in another section.
Have Michael, his brother and sister-in-law indicated what prompted Terri to say, "Don't let me live like that - on tubes"? Was it a particular case in the news, a movie or t.v. program?
Thank you.
I've probably read it too - a long time ago.
Just the fact that they are attempting to do this to Terri for a third time is CRUEL and UNUSUAL. Like trying to electricute or hang a criminal for the third time because the first and second attempts FAILED.
Have any Freepers analyzed the number of posts for Terri and against?
Seems like there might be some useful data in the search.
