Los Angeles Times Poll: 53% Oppose All Or Most Abortions

Los Angeles, CA (LifeNews.com) -- On the day that the infamous Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing unlimited abortion turns 32 years-old, the Los Angeles Times released the results of a new poll showing a majority of Americans oppose all or most abortions.

According to the Times poll, 53 percent said they oppose all or most all abortions while just 43 percent said abortion should always or almost always be illegal.

Looking at the pro-life respondents, 12 percent of all surveyed said abortions should always be illegal and 41 percent said they should be illegal with very rare exceptions such as rape, incest or preventing the death of the mother.

Among those surveyed who backed abortion, 24% agreed with groups like NARAL and Planned Parenthood saying abortions ought to always be legal. And 19 percent said abortion should be legal most of the time.

The Los Angeles newspaper also asked whether respondents "believe Bush when he says he will not use an abortion test for his selection."

Some 45 percent of those polled said they believed the president while 50 percent do not and 5 percent don't know.

While President Bush indicated he would not have a litmus test on abortion, he has also repeatedly said he would appoint judges who would strictly interpret the Constitution and not invent rights in it that do not exist. Such judges would be pro-life or, at minimum, uphold pro-life laws passed by Congress and state legislatures.

According to a NARAL analysis prior to November's presidential election, Bush appointed pro-life judges 99 percent of the time for various federal court positions.

The Times poll surveyed 1,033 adults from January 15 to 17 and has a 3 percent margin of error.

But I thought most Americans wanted Abortions "safe and legal" and "out of politics." Christie Whitman told me so.

while just 43 percent said abortion should always or almost always be illegal.

I think they (unfortunentaly) meant legal, not illegal.

I am disappointed it wasn't 100%, but not bad. For the first time ever, I feel there may be some hope for turning things around. It would be a miracle, IMO, since it is so hard to have a SC case overturned. But they voted in Iraq so anything is possible.

Most Americans want some limitations on what have become (thanks to dictat of the Supreme Court) the most liberal abortion laws in the country. Its a good start.

Just curious, Underlying... this is approximately your 25th thread you have begun in the past three hours from the same source, written by the same author, going back in time... do you ever read anything other than this one author, are you the author and is this spam?

But that group of voters has fewer children, so their proportion of the voting population is shrinking.

Dang! It's practically unanimous! Sounds like 96% of the people oppose abortions!

Of course some could want to make it illegal while not actually opposed to it...

Underlying joined Fr on 1-17-2005. Seems to be one of those single-issue folk. Overdoing it a bit, I'd say.

Underlying's name might be coincidentally the same as the author of these (now approximately 28) threads all posted in the past three hours.

Why do the Dems get away with saying their position on infanticide is 'mainstream?'

[Bush] has also repeatedly said he would appoint judges who would strictly interpret the Constitution and not invent rights in it that do not exist. Such judges would be pro-life or, at minimum, uphold pro-life laws passed by Congress and state legislatures.

And what is wrong with that?

12 percent of all surveyed said abortions should always be illegal and 41 percent said they should be illegal with very rare exceptions such as rape, incest or preventing the death of the mother.

And where might the other 43% fall. Don't get that!

You saying Dems make up their own reality?
Why, that's like saying that water is wet!
