Good thing there's no intelligent design in that algorithm.
Otherwise people would see you don't know what you're talking about.

Unless I am mistaken (happens all too often !!),
I believe that what he meant was not
use mathematical techhniques similar to those in evolution to acheive optimization
but
randomly mutate your source code and see how well it compiles.
