This guy is a college graduate and has never been in any trouble before this. He is a engineer.
I have trouble believing this guy stunned ONE of his children for no reason at all. I dont condone him stunning his kid, but there is way more to this story than is being reported.
Why hasnt he stunned the other kids?
He has a problem child thats why.

Stun gun seems more humane than the large stick they used back in the day.

I'm all for giving a child an open-handed smack on their rear end when needed, but using a stun gun is crossing the line.

And maybe, just maybe the kid actually deserved it.

The other children are 7 and 5, which is a major difference from 14. The charges sound good to me, but perhaps a bit light. They could file separate charges for each individual incident. I guess they're going easy on him because of his clear record. It'll be worse if there's a next time...

Very true. Maybe he should have spanked him with one of those old fashioned sticks like they had back then...

Although I was never tasered, by the time I was 9 I could tell by feel whether my dad was using the black belt or the brown one. I deserved then and maybe this kid deserved a whipping now.

I agree 14 is different than 7 and 5, but the point is if this guy had a major temper problem, im sure when his temper flared he wouldnt stop to consider age.
To: Bikers4Bush
Agree, i think the kid is a problem child.
To: theconservativerepublican
The child let out a scream and then "got into the vehicle,"
Worked, didn't it?

My brother was 16 and refused to wake up and get ready for school back in 1970. Day after day it was a fight. One day my father told my brother he was going to use a cattle prod on him the very next morning if he did not get up when the rest of the family did. He told my did he would short out the silly cattle prod. Well he did not short it out but he did jump out of bed and never was a problem again.

I can't imagine why you'd be so sure of such a thing. In any event, I agree 100% with the following from the report:
"The discipline seems malicious in nature and there is no way a reasonable person can understand how it could be used to correct a behavior in a non-abusive manner [without] causing undue mental stress and physical injury to the victim."
Not much more to say on the matter afaic. Whether or not the child is a problem child, the father seems like a problem parent..

Back at The Citadel we used to sneak into our buddies rooms when people were napping during the day (when they werent supposed to be,) and we would zapp em with one of these things. It gives you a jolt, obviously, but it doesnt hurt or leave any lasting damage. For this reason, I wouldnt rely on one to keep my wife safe, nor would I throw a fit over somebody getting zapped with one. This guys probably had the typical, low charge stun gun, and is getting chased by liberals on a witch hunt.... I really doubt this thing was a cattle prod.

It's just bad that a father thought he had to resort to this! There are many ways of dicipling children, and I personally don't think stun guns should be one of them.
OTOH, I don't think he "abused" the kid, who obviously needed some form of discipline. I think the father is guilty of a poor decision.
