Commuter train derails in Glendale
Associated Press
GLENDALE, Calif. - A Metrolink commuter train derailed early Wednesday in this Los Angeles suburb, and firefighters were searching through the wreckage.
Television reports showed smoke coming from twisted wreckage at the scene of the crash, where two separate trains could be seen derailed.
The derailment in this Los Angeles suburb was near San Fernando Road and Chevy Chase Boulevard.

Keep us posted, if you have local news.
President Bush is giving a news conference now, so cable has nothing new.
A passenger/witness (of which train I'm not sure), just interviewed said the train looked 60-65-70% full.
Those pictures remind me of the Kerry campaign.
Will do. I have my scanner locked on the Incident Commander for Glendale and Fox11 for visual. This is very well under control. Just a LOT left to be done.
What do you hear on your scanner?
I pinged BurbankKarl before I read your post. Thanks for keeping us informed. If there were three trains involved, sounds like a dispatcher error unless one derailed or a switch malfunctioned -- we shall see.

They now have everyone off of the trains. Possibly 4 fatalities
It's probably going to start to rain also. The west side has already gotten a morning drenching a couple minutes ago.

The Union Pacific engine was not moving at the time. It was sitting on a side track and was hit by the Metrolink train as it derailed
Watching KTLA (in SD we're seeing it nonstop on that LA station) I saw them with mountains of the costco water bottles that come in the pallets of like 24...bunches of them stacked up (the pallets)...it's great that with the resources Costco has right there that they are able to get some things to help the injured and rescuers before some of the other agencies are even able to really respond (like Red Cross, etc.).
One thing that seems odd is they keep saying they have cleared all the cars, and then nearly everytime after they say that, then they follow that by hearing that they just found another person. Seems like you'd stop saying you found everyone till you were really sure.
Police Chief Baca just said (on KTLA) that a jeep cherokee was t-boned by a train (sounded like it was the freight train) and then it caused derailments that resulted in the two metrolinks also being involved.
When they say they have cleared the cars they mean they have reviewed and know whats needed and have a count/plan.
Ahhh
The Metrolink travels mostly on one track, with sidetracks approaching stations. I'm surprised this wasn't a head-on collision. It sounds like the Metrolink was switched to a sidetrack that the freight was sitting on. The ensuing collision then took out the eastbound train...
that's my guess...
Just once I would like to hear the commentator for FoxNews say, hey, can we get rid of that dang graphic at the bottom of the screen so we can see this.
Huh? It's not like the grid going down.
:-) BurbankKarl is THE MAN when it comes to scanner updates. I hope he arrives here soon.

Just a few weeks back,
didn't some ex-CIA
guy say the next month
would bring a wave of
attacks across the US?
Could it be starting?
