Yeah that's the #1 insult about what they call hate crimes. As if other crimes are committed out of love.
I don't see how anyone can say federal money will prevent an intentional act like this, but the mayor of Glendale just did.
There will be a lawsuit...the only question is how long before it's filed. "Federal agencies, county agencies, need for cooperation to be ongoing...." lists sheriff's department, fire department, assures the public this case will not be closed until all the answers are found.
Hope Federal Government will provide money so that railroad crossing won't be this dangerous and we won't have this kind of tragedy..."
Does that mean it's W's fault again? or the taxpayers?
How long til Baca uses this as "proof" he needs the voters to pass that tax increase for funding law enforcement, even though the system seems to have worked flawlessly this morning?
HEAR, HEAR!
Metrolink official expressing condolences, mentioning they cannot control individuals who drive onto the track...he's expecting the lawsuit axe to fell as well
A name would be a nice start.
Not long. I can't believe he basically said it's Bush's fault.
Name of suspect coming up shortly.
And to think I prefer the train because I refuse to fly....
sundero
Also handed off as Glendale jurisdiction with help from L.A. Which city has more money? I'm guessing Glendale, and that's why the Mayor is saying he wants Fed money now.
The money jockeying begins 5, 4, 3, 2 ... 1 NOW!
Here it comes. Train passengers deserve better than this. Deranged individual caused this. Train passengers are precious to us, they're going to work. Condolences upon Sheriff Tuttino's death.
More "we did a great job." Heart felt feelings to people who lost lives. Metro Link does everything it can to improve grade crossings. Yet can't do anything to prevent people who drive onto grade crossings. (Whew.)
Name of suspect coming up in moments.
Fire Chief on now. First responders, fire fighters law enforcement officers all did tremendous job. Ten deceased confirmed now at this time. All patients transported. Fire Department did tremendous rescue effort today. Will continue to keep you advised. Glendale Police Dept. still working together with Fire Department to insure safety.
Metro Link doesn't have exact passenger list. Hard to identify passengers.
Juan Manuel Alvarez 26 year old, resident of Compton, last known address is suspect.
They say "shortly". "Shortly could mean hours from now though.
Says they don't have an "exact passenger list"...rather than raising taxes to make railroad crossings "safer" in some vague way, they should find a way to get passenger lists... Juan Manuel Alvarez...26 years old, last known residence city of...somehting I couldn't understand...stressing this is now a HOMOCIDE investigation...cops apparently aren't ready to buy his sroty either
Suspect tried to slash wrists, tried to stab himself in chest and then tried to put car on tracks. In custody, being questioned. Put car on tracks, made decision to exit Jeep. He was actually at scene and observed tragic incident.
That's California for ya. Just last night I saw that residents of Santa Clarita (whose homes were destroyed/damaged in the big rain two weeks ago) are bitching that the president needs to declare their mobile home park a federal disaster area, because California is so broke, there will be no money handed out to them unless he does. And Arnie's out in La Conchita promising to rebuild. It boggles the mind.
Vicente Fox will demand that he be given amnesty and a driver's license.
Juan Manuel Alvarez is the name of the 26 year old suspect. Last known residence was Compton.
