New York Almost half of all African-Americans believe that HIV, the virus that causes Aids, is man-made, more than a quarter believe it was produced in a government laboratory and one in eight think it was created and spread by the CIA, according to a study released by Rand Corporation and the University of Oregon.
The paper's authors say these views are obstructing efforts to prevent the spread of HIV among African-Americans, the racial group most likely to contract the virus.
"The findings are striking, and a wake-up call to the prevention community," Laura Bogart, a behavioural scientist who co-authored the study, told the Washington Post.
"The prevention community has not addressed conspiracy beliefs in the context of prevention. I think that a lot of people involved in prevention may not be from the community where they are trying to prevent HIV."
African-Americans are 13% of the US population but account for 50% of new HIV infections, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
African-American women constituted 73% of new female HIV cases in 2003.

I think you're right. I'd like to see the overall numbers, not just those limited to a particular race. Some of the white liberal people I hear call in to talk radio probably believe this too.
A culture of shame finds conspiracies everywhere. Look at the Arab world, for example. Some there think that the Jews kidnap Arab children and drain their blood to use in Passover cookies. How does one deal with this sort of thing? I ask rhetorically.

lol
I hope blacks realize that Planned Parenthood's fundamental goal is to reduce their numbers, since they are "human weeds".
Heaven help you if you're ever on a thread to which both conservababe and conservativebabe are posting.

It's also probably good not to date them in succession. Calling a woman by the wrong name isn't cool!
A bump and a drip!
I think it's more like 1 in 7 or even 1 in 6
Ain't THAT the truth. I know two parents who are both PhD Psychologists. Their kids are a mess from being constantly overanalyzed by their parents.
Courtesy Black-American ping - thought you'd be interested.
Bullsh*t.
There's a small percentage that wears tin foil, but the vast majority of black America doesn't subscribe to that hair-brained theory.
Black conservative ping
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
um. I don't like disagreeing with you, but...
From my own observations, it seems to me that, while it may not be quite as bad as the Rand study indicates, it is far more prevalent than "a small percentage that wears tin foil"
You would not believe some of the crazy ideas I have encountered from patients while working in a medical practice. While simple ignorance and profound stupidity are essentially uniformly represented across all demographics, the truly loopy ideas regarding health and medicine are definitely much more heavily subscribed to among blacks.
I don't believe it either. I bet the question was phrased.
"Many people think, and evidence seems to show that man invented the AIDS virus. Do you think this theory might be possible?"
Sounds like another excuse to blame someone else for their irresponsibility or their plights.
And do you think the Democratic party helps spawn these crazy ideas so as to keep the black population from furthering their self reliance?
Preventing AIDS involves not having unprotected sex with people infected with HIV, or even better, not having sex outside a monogamous relationship, so what this guy is saying is that people having unprotected sex with people with whom they are not involved in a monogamous relationship with is a conspiracy?
This conspiracy then, has its roots in The Holy Bible.
possibly, for some of the ideas. More generally, the Dems certainly do deliberately coddle and foster the subculture in which such looney notions spawn and fester, for the reason you indicated.
How you ask. Well, based on the shorter life expectancy of Blacks they don't receive benefits as long as non-Blacks. That money is used elsewhere such as paying off other beneficiaries.
Let me whisper this though, if we get to privatize a small portion of SS then Blacks and their families could actually keep their social security money. But if they continue to vote 90% for dems they will continue to punish themselves.
