A culture of life for America got a big boost from President Bush as he addressed, from Camp David by telephone, pro-life demonstrators in DC marking the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. He told abortion opponents he shared their support for 'a culture of life' and lauded progress in passing legislation to protect the vulnerable.
Presidents Bush and Chirac plan to have dinner in Europe next month. The president is also planning to host Chirac in the United States sometime soon. Bush plans to stop in Germany, and to meet with Russia's Putin in the Slovak Republic during his visit to Europe.
The Bush administration plans to announce it will seek about $80 billion in new funding for military operations this year in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, will lead a US delegation to Poland for observances marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps. Cheney will tour Auschwitz, honor Holocaust survivors, speak at the international forum, meet with Poland's President Kwasniewski, Poland's PM Belka, and Ukraine's President Yushchenko.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
What a beautiful photo
What part of Kent?
Jeanette wasn't in Phantom. His co-star was a young ingenue named Susannah Foster (possibly still in her teens in 1942).
You'll find that it's very, very different from the Lloyd Webber musical, and very different from the original book. Claude Rains is very much the star.......except, of course, for that magnificent baritone Eddy voice. :o)
The underground set in it is the same one they used in the silent movie Lon Cheney version.
My introduction to the "Phantom" was a black and white horror movie when I was about 13. I don't know which version it was but my best friend was into stuff like that and would drag me to theaters or look this stuff up on TV when I was staying the night. It kind of freaked me out, the version I saw as a child, so I wasn't very interested in seeing the 2004 version. I'm glad I saw the previews because taking it from horror to music, and adapting the story, made it so much more interesting.
Do you know which album babs sang "All I Ask of You" on? I'd like to listen to the audio clip at amazon.com.
Just listened to all the clips of Phantom at amazon. When I got to the one they title "Down Once More / Track down This Murderer" (I would title it "Wishing You Were Here") from the graveyard scene, I got teary all over again. It got to me both times at the movie and I think anyone who has lost a loved one many years before would have a hard time not being affected by it. "Wishing I could hear your voice again," just really chokes me up.
And about that Amazon........I know what younger daughter is going to get for her 4.0 grade card!
(She's obsessed!)
I'm really looking at a city in I think it's called Norfolk. I need to look it up on a map of England.
I'm forever an Easterner! HEE! HEE!
So were my ancestors! :o)
Hello "Easterner" if you can find out more details of where in East Anglian your ancestors came then I will see what info I can find out for you about the actual town(s)etc.
Lovely speech today by Dick Cheney in Poland just found an excert of it on Yahoo.
****"The death camps were created by men with a high opinion of themselves some of them well-educated and possessed of refined manners but without conscience," he said. "And where there is no conscience, there is no tolerance toward others ... no defense against evil ... and no limit to the crimes that follow." *****
This truly says it as it was not sugar coated and pretend they were ignorant men that knew no better.
I'll get out my records so far and tell you what I can.
Thanks for the excerpt from VP Cheney's speach in Poland.
Isn't he awesome! :o)
