Many families in this area have a lunch similar to yours--roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables, etc. In our area, a lot of people also go out to eat after church on Sundays.

Gee all this talk of wonderful roasts and yorkshire puddings puts my plain old meatloaf that I made today to shame. But make it I did, to use up some ground meat in the freezer before we leave day after tomorrow for our winter Texan RV adventure.
We are getting unpacked, laundered, re-packed and cleaned up before leaving. The foot of snow didn't help, creating more work for Mr. Prairie but thankfully it didn't snow down where the RV is and the forecast is clear for us getting started and dropping south mid-week. So, mustn't be too choosey.

Things in NE are still cold, but not as bad as the last few days. Sunny, too, and supposed to be nice for at least the first few days of the week. I suppose things in IA are about the same?
You're very welcome. They help brighten up a snowy day in much of the nation. Of course, here in L.A. it's a lovely sunny day with temps in the 70's.
LOVE the Barney painting!!! Wouldn't it be great to be able to go thru the private quarters in the WH, or their ranch in Crawford? I'd love to see what magazines they read, the art, the kind of perfume she uses, etc., etc., etc. I bet tehre are things that would surprise us. That painting doesn't, because I know she has a sense of humor, but I wonder what else we'd find.

Batter pudding
4oz Plain flour
1 level teaspoon
1 egg (I usually use 2 it rises better)
Half pint milk or half milk half water if prefer lighter batter
Sift flour and salt into bowl, make well in centre, drop in whole egg gradually beat to a batter with half of the milk or milk and water.
Continue beating until batter is smooth and bubbles rise to the surface. Gently beat in rest of liquid. Leave to rest whilst preparing tin.
Put oil in either a 10 x 12 inch roasting tin or a bun tin (muffin tin). Heat in oven (230 C) until very hot about 10 mins. Pour in batter bake until well risen and golden about 20 - 30 mins
Serve with roast dinner and gravy.

The game I REALLY care about just started but I'm in and out of the kitchen so I have to watch it thru the breakfast bar mostly...
Unfortunately they're all packed so I can't tell you the titles for sure--one I think is just "Laura" and came out several years ago. It has a mostly blue cover. Then there's "The Perfect Wife" and altho there are good pictures and neat anecdotes in it it's also got some slams of the family. IIRR it got very mixed reviews here on the Dose. I liked it the first time I read it but paging thru it a few weeks ago didn't as much.
The painting is darling, isn't it. I enjoy whimiscal things. I agree with you that it would be great fun and very interesting to see their private quarters and the ranch. Being able to see only the public face of a person we admire always leaves us a little hungry for more.
