The Free Republic W2 Inaugural Ball was a wonderful, but exhausting time. I'm still wiped out. But, I know folks are waiting for pics and stories. I'll add my observations later, but I wanted to share one thing before I head back to the hotel to see 'Governor' Robinson and his family off.
We received a phone call from the White House yesterday. The Office of Presidential Scheduling called to pass along President Bush's regrets for not being able to attend our ball (we had mailed a formal invitation to him and his family.) We were told, "He hopes it went well."
As it turns out, the ball went really well after a late start.
Governor Huckabee and Capitol Offense rocked the house well past midnight. Impressionist Billy Finch did a wonderful job as Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful. Sauropod's video presentaion was stunning. The speeches by the Iraqis were very moving. WMAL's Michael Graham did a great job opening the show. Nick Danger was excellent emceeing the Eagle Awards. The St. John's College High School JROTC were magnificent presenting the colors. Richard Poe was busy all night signing copies of Hillary's Secret War. Seeking the Truth and his wife, Darlie, couldn't take a break--their 0Cents.com merchandise was very popular.
Thanks to all for their hard work making sure the ball went so well. And a special thanks to the active duty service members from Walter Reed and the Pentagon, as well as the veterans, who accepted our invitations as honored guests to the ball.
Please post your reports and photos or links here. I know alot of folks are traveling home, so check back over the next few day as folks check back in on FR.
Thanks for the video. The speech by the Iraqi made me cry.
You guys looked great and it sounds like it was a wonderful time.
Tanks!
Will look forward to seeing you next time. Did we meet in 2001?
According to Wes, today's conservatism bears little resemblance to that envisioned by Kirk, who espoused limited foreign interventionism, reasonable restrictions on capitalism and preservation of the great institutions of our civilization. Wes doesn't believe Kirk would have been very fond of today's neocons.
WONDERFUL pictures, Spookie! How exciting that your entire family was able to enjoy the festivities with you. Wow! I know how hard the kids worked alongside you for the re-election of our great President. :o)
You're Welcome
"John, you look a bit like Newt. :)"
LOL... About 10 years ago, our Mom was in the hospital. She was sharing a room with another woman, an elderly lady. John walked into the room, the elderly lady said "Newt Gingrich, is that you? How nice of you to visit me. Come over here Newt." John walked over and chatted a bit with her, made her day :-)
"Deadhead, I hope you don't mind I lightened your photo"
I don't mind at all, looks much better now. I snatched the lightened one :-) The woman on the left is 3D-Joy's daughter
Thanks for the ping! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Been pretty busy. Let me know how Chloe's doing on Atlas Shrugged.
We might have to settle for my reading passages aloud to her ...! ;)
Our pictures came out terrible we really need to get a digital camera. None of the dance floor pictures came out (Im going to swipe some from this thread for my scrapbook!). Anyway, here we are, meowmeow and Republicanaut:
I know they person you are talking about but have not seen anything about who he was.
She promised! Tell her I want to know what page she's on.
These are the photos that I got of him.....
Thanks again for sending me those great military photos to include in my poster...wish I could have used all of them.
Last night I e-mailed you all three of the photos that I took of you with the poster. Hope you got them.
Bootless, did I tell you how wonderful it was to see you again? You are such a delight to talk to. Hope it won't be another four years before we meet up again. LOL. You are always welcome to join us for our support our military rallies in Fresno on the first Friday of the month. (HINT, HINT) :-)
Thanks, Mama_Bear! I wondered who he was. Now I can Google some information, and hope to DL the movie with his talk.
It was delightful to see you, too! I'll try to make Fresno once in a while - it's a LONG drive! :-)
I know, and I don't blame you for not wanting to make that drive. But plan on coming to our annual barbeque the second Saturday in September. It's a family day with Jim and the FResno group, and always lots of fun.
What a great time we had, and was had by all.
Thanks, Kristinn and all who worked so hard to make the W2 Inaugural Ball such a great success.
Ooh, that sounds good! I'll see how it dovetails with the Lad's soccer schedule. :-) Thanks!
