"I got a 91% dixie.I was in Michigan a couple of times, everytime I spoke someone said HUH??"

I was in Connecticut last year; went shopping at some high-toned place while my husband was doing some business. The sales lady helping me dragged me over to the other sales women, and said, "LISTEN to her talk! Isn't that Texas accent adorable?!"

Yikes! I left, forgot about spending any money (thrilled my husband!), and stayed in the motel the rest of the time!

I went to Wisconsin a few years ago. I had to get my relatively unaccented husband to order in a restaurant for me. They acted like it was a different language.

I lived in Southern Indiana for several years. I had quite a few friends who are from and live in Kentucky. I picked up on some of their lingo such as "dibs", dinner instead of lunch, supper instead of dinner. I also somewhat picked up on their accents as well. When I moved from Indiana to Colorado, I worked about 8 months at MCI and most people there were from the East Coast or California. They noticed my accent and even mentioned something to me about it when I got laid off. I was also told I did not fit into their corporate culture which was basically an east coast mentality which is live to work, not work to live. I tried the test but it didn't work.
