Yankee or Dixie? Take the Quiz
Yankee or Dixie ^
Posted on 01/14/2005 11:10:39 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs
Yankee or Dixie? Check on your dialect and see if you might have crossed over to the "other side"! Simply click on the correct answer. As you go, the quiz will automatically interpret each answer to show you what your answer implies about you. When you are done, press Compute My Score. Your score will be calculated as a percentage: 0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.
- Do not change your answer during the test as it will ruin the score. You may do this after scoring is calculated to see the other answers.
- If you make a mistake, hit Clear below to restart the test!
- I regret that I do not have time to entertain discussions about this test or negotiate changes. It is provided strictly as-is and for entertainment purposes only.
- Be aware that television entertainment has a lot of northern dialect in it. This will have more of an influence on you than you expect.
- This test is based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey of 30788 respondents.

that was a fun quiz. kind of surprising that I scored so high considering that I'm from California<<<
LOL! I got 73% Dixie and was raised in Santa Cruz, CA! (Of course, my parents were 100% Texan!)

Barely into the Dixie category.
With a screen name of Kennesaw, I should be pushing 90%.

40% a definite Yankee thank GOD. But #9 we call it a Wedge in Yonkers. And I have no name for that dam bug nor do I have a word for the toilet paper.

The test was boring for me. 51% Dixie. What is interesting is that almost all the posters on this thread are proud of their high Dixie scores. Almost no one proudly proclaimed they have a Yankee score. I wonder? Are Yankees ashamed of being Yankees?

I didn't know that gyms shoes weren't called gym shoes everywhere until I was 19. My college roommate had never heard "gym shoes" before in her life and I had never heard them not called gym shoes. LOL!

61% Dixie and I have lived in the Rocky Mountain region all my life!
Seriously, I think the test lumped "rural" usages in with "southern". Rural, I'll admit to but I'll never be more than a Southern wannabe.

100% Dixie. Was General Lee my father? I was raised in southern West Virginia.

What Yankee addresses a group of people as "You all"? I believe that "you" is proper for the second person plural.

92% Dixie. It asked if Gerneral Lee was my Father. Sort of surprised me although I am from Georgia.
