Dan Rather: 'I have read the report, I take it seriously, and I shall keep its lessons well in mind.' Tue Jan 11 2005 14:56:11 ET **Exclusive**
The panel report is part of a process -- a necessary process to deal with a difficult issue -- at the end of which four good people have lost their jobs. My strongest reaction is one of sadness and concern for those individuals whom I know and with whom I have worked. It would be a shame if we let this matter, troubling as it is, obscure their dedication and good work over the years. ... [here]...
what ABSOLUTE GALL!!!!!!! this A$$hole has
This is a big part of the root cause of gross liberalism in the MSM...the level of arrogance and conceit that has developed and prevails there, has warped their minds to the degree that they believe their own lies, and think that Americans are just too stupid to figure it all out.
Witness the death of the MSM and its whacked-out, lying, leftists.
Anyone who has read or heard parts of the Thornburgh report will see that basically Rather tried to cover his @ss and let the others below him take the fall. He also used his influence to circumvent normal journalist reporting.
I've been suggesting all day that we coin a few new phrases in the aftermath of Rathergate.
1. The Dan Rather Syndrome
The Dan Rather Syndrome: Noun. A pervasive attitude in one's work environment where the boss often has his subordinates take the blame for any of his (or her) wrong doing so as to cover his own @ss.
For example:
"My boss has Dan Rather Syndrome. He let two of us take the hit for his screw up on those mutual funds."
2. danrathered.
dan-rath'-erred: verb 1. to be let go to cover the incompetent missteps taken by a superior. 2. using one's influence to overturn the will of a majority of people.
Example:
"My boss danrathered me. He let me take the fall for his blunder that cost us the Anderson account."
3. Danrather Journalism
danrather journalism: noun. A term that denotes politically biased journalism.
example:
"The editorial displayed evidence of danrather journalism, portraying the republican senator as a racist."
Let this be Dan Rather's legacy.
nikos
Dan Rather's comments translated...
The commission entirely missed the boat. This WAS a partisan issue. It was never anything but a partisan issue.
I apologize only for being caught...not because I did anything wrong.
Good luck to Mary Mapes, etc. who took the fall for me. After all, that's why they worked at CBS....to take the rap for the irresponsibilities of us higher-ups.
Later, suckers...I mean good citizens.
cbs wants to whitewash this thing by saying "myopic rush to get story--no bias." Sure. But what about rathernot's behavior for the 12 days subsequent to airing? How about his statements to the effect: " I don't have to prove the story true, you have to prove it false?" Some kind of orwellian newspeak, from the former dean of american journalism.
Dan, the report you've been reading is obviously a forgery. If you read the real thing surely you'd sack up and resign like a man.
I wonder if he's ever heard of Thomas More? Atty Gen. Elliot Richardson sure did - a principled resignation is way overdue.
Translation of the translation:
"Please, Mary, don't get so angry you take me to court, and I'll try to do you a few favors under the table when I get the chance. As for you other guys, so long and happy landings!"
Translation:
Next time I won't get caught.
LOL! True!
Are you in a 4-day time-warp? Here's another newsflash: There was a big earthquke and tsunami recently.
Translation: A partisan hatchet job against Republicans by CBS News is an "essential public service".
."Terry, I understand the problem, of course. And, you dont see any of that Swift Boat stuff on my broadcast. Sure, I've got some things working again this year. We'll declare some winners and losers early to try to influence western voters like we do every year and I'll bash Bush on the points you send me every day and NEVER mention Kerry's sliminess, but, something big, something right now, no, don't have anything."
"Dan, if you can launch something big, something that our media can run with, Dan, there's a million dollars, cash, in it for you to keep or spread around however you want. And, I can even hook you up with the guys who did the Lehman forgeries in Kerry's file."
"OK, Terry, my daughter's got some contacts in TANG. I'll fake something and have it on 60 Minutes Wednesday night. You'll have to get it to all the other main stream media of Thursday morning and no one will be able to come up with a challenge before the following week. But, it'll cost. That's a million to me and a half million to Mary."
"Done!"
um.. the report was just released, and I did a search for this 'memo' from Ted Baxter- I mean Dan Rather to his staff...
whats your beef?
"It would be a shame if we let this matter, troubling as it is, obscure their dedication and good work over the years." That's a lot like saying "John Wayne Gacy did so much good entertaining children. Let's not let a few murders obscure the good he did."
Dan Rather is a smug, arrogant , insincere, tired old man .
Before Rathergate: I am a hard-nosed REPORTER, I do journalism, I don't just read the stories like a bimbette.
After Rathergate: Not resigning implicitly means I am a bimbette (or just a pretty face, or Ted Baxter), I take no responsibility in the story.
Of course, even had he offered to resign, CBiaS would have begged him to hang on for another few weeks, because firing his ass (or him leaving) would basically mean the last 30 years of CBiaS news were mostly baloney not just the Mapes story. So they'll live with him for another few weeks and protect his derriere.
Mary Mapes response: "Outstanding - fired because I forged documents and was in bed with the Kerry campaign - This will NOT look good on my resume!!!!"
