Former Clinton White House Mr. Fix-It Bruce Lindsey emerged tight-lipped yesterday after testifying before a federal grand jury probing whether top-secret documents were illegally removed from the National Archives. The grand jury probe, reported exclusively in The Post Tuesday, is digging into why another former Bill Clinton aide, Sandy Berger, sneaked the national security documents out of the Archives possibly in his socks.
Lindsey denied any inside knowledge about Berger's sticky fingers.
"All I know is what he [Berger] said. He made a public statement," said Lindsey, Clinton's deputy White House counsel, after testifying under oath yesterday.
Berger admits walking off with 40 to 50 top-secret documents from the archives, but claims it was an "honest mistake" while vetting documents for the 9/11 commission.
Berger has admitted destroying some documents he says by mistake.
Lindsey declined comment on what he told the grand jury, but denied reports that he met with Berger in New York for crisis control as the scandal erupted last summer.
[snip]
Among the documents Berger lifted were multiple drafts of a report assessing the 2000 millennium threat that is said to conclude that only luck prevented a terrorist attack then.
That conflicts with Berger's sworn testimony to the commission he claimed "we thwarted" millennium attacks by being vigilant, not lucky.

Hmm...right in time for the start of the next election cycle. Wouldn't DU flip over that.
Does the report actually say that, or are you just guessing?
The reason I ask is because I've thought all along that it isn't the reports, it's what's in the margins that they are trying to hide.
Right. Because we found that out by accident, all the while the press was yammering about Bush and Cheney being in there together.
Thanks for that clarification. I was quite sure Cheney was there and was going to look it up when I got back from the gym. I had thought another person was there but it must have been the WH staffer who took notes that you mentioned.
Maybe......... or somebody getting to Fort Marcy Park before their car.
If you listen to the coverup artists, they'll tell you that Vince Foster hot-wired his car to take his last drive.
;-)
Do we know whether Berger was the only one of the Clinton administration that was permitted to look at those documents? If so, he had to be the point man.
And am I remembering a meeting he had with Clinton before he went into the archives, back in the summer of 2003?
iF he is the one (likely) that is being indicted...He may not be called...."I don't recall....etc." being his friend ;^)
I'm still doing quick searches .. and have to take my youngest to school
Here is a thread Backhoe opened with regards to that memo
MemoGate- sedition, slander-- or something worse?

BERGER PAPERS BARED TRANSLATION DISASTER

In the latest twist to the document scandal, investigators said the revelation about translators was among several criticisms of Americas ability to deal with the looming al Qaeda threat contained in the after action memo on the millennium terror plot that is at the center of the Berger probe.
Officials said an appeal to hire more translators familiar with Arabic, Pashto and other key counter-terrorism languages at the FBI, CIA and National Security Agency was among 29 proposals to tighten security contained in the report.
The report written by former White House counter-terrorism chief Richard Clarke also warned of the presence of al Qaeda cells inside the United States. It urged increased surveillance of Arab students coming into the United States and called for increased security at U.S. ports and other points of entry, investigators said.
The Clinton administration is reported to have only adopted one of its proposals.
Government officials said the FBI had been conducting electronic surveillance of a mosque in Brooklyn frequented by Afghans in 1999 after developing information from the investigation of the U.S. embassy bombings in East Africa.
Sources said the FBI had hours of taped conversations between people associated with the unidentified mosque and suspected terrorist leaders

Send him to Guantanamo! Get the jumper cables out.
Personally, I don't think anyone in the Clinton administration was functionally capable of hot-wiring a flashlight!
I'd take him personally.
And I am beginning to think there is really "something" here; just think, if they indict Berger, the press will go insane, finally having a new bone to chew!
Except, of course, for this guy:

Nothing will come of it....
The Bears have never repeated anything...but losing.

Well, now, isn't this pleasant! The Sandy Berger mess AND Hillary's campaign manager scandal.
Good things do happen to those who wait....
I am hopeful.
The investigation turned out not to be over yet.
I said last summer that Bergergate was an accidental leak.
See: Clinton WH FBI files, Gore's bladder issues, Dan Rather, now Sandy Bergler, among others.
Why don't we just repeal the laws against treason. There are so many left-wing/Communist officials wagging their traitorous hineys at our country that my hopes of anyone ever being held accountable for it are quickly fading...
Especially since he was blaming Condi Rice for 9/11/01 at about the same time he was "accidentally" stuffing classified documents down his shorts so he could later "accidentally" destroy them a la Hillary.
