Forecast on the Iraq Unpleasantness (ZOT!!! Revised forecast, dangerous electrical storms.)
Posted on 01/10/2005 7:48:02 AM PST by Donald Bass
This Week began with Steph interviewing Colin Powell, who is in Kenya for the signing of a Sudanese peace treaty. Powell is still dealing with the diplomatic details of rushing aid to the tsunami-battered Southeast Asian region. Predictably, he said US relief officials on the ground are doing a great job, but refused to guess what the final death toll will be -- though he did admit a final accurate estimate may be impossible.
The pleassantries ended when George turned to supposed coming Iraqi elections, including a prediction by one Iraqi official of "incipient civil war" along ethnic lines following the election. Powell started railing against insurgents as if they were in fact a unified "tairist" front -- ignoring the issue of a potential civil war between rival ethnic insurgent factions. George steered Powell back to saying that Sunnis must have a stake in the next Iraqi government, and he hopes to see a government that is freely elected, gives all ethnicities a voice, and establishes a solid police force/army. Zbigniew Brzezinski says 500,000 troops and $200 BILLION would be the minimum needed for success, and, assuming the position of dutiful Bush buttswab, Powell called Zbig a "naysayer" and began talking about drawing down forces.
Steph stepped up the heat, mentioning the TIME article about the Pentagon mulling a dirty war. Powell quickly said that he is not familiar with what the Pentagon is up to. Talk about an understatement.

If they need 500,000 more, we should stop polishing our guns and start using 'em.
Just another filthy troll who's wants the draft reinstated so he can say, "I told you so!"
Sorry. You're not even remotely clever or convincing. Quit trying to undermine our troops and crawl back to DU, troll!

I often wonder if you trolls keep track of the threads you start, after you've been banned. Probably not, as you are convinced that you are right, so why should you listen to any other point of view?
But, perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe you do read these threads, if only to get a chuckle. If that's the case then hopefully you'll read this post with a serious mind. I would like to ask you why you feel it's necessary to have such a negative view of this war? Have you always had negative opinions about the Iraq war? How about the WOT in general? If so, why? Do you ever engage yourself in serious self-examination from time to time? I know I do.
I would like to submit one thing for your consideration: Even if the war in Iraq was based on false premise, even if it was only a "chicken hawk, neocon campaign" to build up the war machine, even if there simply wasn't any logical reason at all to go into Iraq, what possible good can it do *now*, to continually spew negativity about it? Do you think that makes the troops who read this site (and believe me, there are some over there right now reading this) feel good? Do you think this increases morale?
As an army man yourself, I'm sure you know the importance of morale. Thus, to me, it seems your agenda is not to criticize the conflict in Iraq, nor Powell, or any other member of the Bush administration. It seems to me your agenda is to dishearten the men and women fighting over there now, so that they *will* loose. I honestly can see no other reason for constantly harping on about how wrong the Iraq war is; what's done is done. Let's get our boys home as quickly as possible. How about that for an idea?
Or do you think that's what you're doing? Do you honestly think that by prolonging the conflict, (and yes that is the effect of your words, for by sowing dissent and diminishing morale, you are guaranteeing that the soldiers over there right now *won't* fight as effectively as they could) that *that's* going to bring our troops home sooner? Do you think that after a time, no matter how chaotic Iraq is, we're going to just pack up and leave? I'd like to think we've learned some lessons in history with respect to that decision. Put shortly, it ain't gonna happen.
So how about if you put your self righteous, sanctimonious opinions of yourself and the Iraq war aside, and *actually* get behind your brothers in arms?
Or is politics more important to you than our soldiers?

I see you've been zotted, ridiculed, stomped on, ridiculed some more, clawed by numerous cats, a dog, and a squirrel, thoroughly stuned, and paved.
I present you with you lovely parting gift, a beautiful shrubbery.
