A spring! The thermal blanket seems to be in excellent condition.

Looks like somebody dropped a plastic "spring water" bottle on the left side of the thing.

This isn't a "crash" site, is it? It's the heat shield that was jettisoned prior to landing.

361+ days on Mars (for spirit) and still ticking. Those things are tougher than a Timex watch. Makes you proud to be an American. Too bad the LSM don't consider it worth reporting.

Always have my 3D specs next to the PC for just such and occasion. Real Cool. The spring is a nice touch, just seems weird to see such a common item sitting on a planet so far away.

I see George Lucas has spared no expense for his filming of Star Wars 3(6).

Thanks Phil. these are great. Earlier today I threw together a few glyphs too, though yours are always better.

Not much of an impact crator or obvious surface abrassions. the ground there must be pretty hard. I know the heat shield is pretty light weight, but if you dropped it down on most Earth soils, you would expect at least some surface markings. The ground is probably like a desert permafrost tundra. Tough place to dig a hole I'm sure.

Neat photos. Someday the scene you are looking at will include human visitors, looking at the heat shield to do some research on materials aging in the martian environment.
