Earlier today, responding to these remarks by the UN's Jan Egeland
But U.N. Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Jan Egeland suggested that the United States and other Western nations were being "stingy" with relief funds, saying there would be more available if taxes were raised.
"It is beyond me why are we so stingy, really," the Norwegian-born U.N. official told reporters. "Christmastime should remind many Western countries at least, [of] how rich we have become."
"There are several donors who are less generous than before in a growing world economy," he said, adding that politicians in the United States and Europe "believe that they are really burdening the taxpayers too much, and the taxpayers want to give less. It's not true. They want to give more."
I sent this email to Jan Egeland
You seem to be under the impression that the ONLY way that individuals can donate money to charities and disasters is if the government TAKES the money from them in the form of taxes and gives it to YOU.
Leaving aside the fact that the UN is the last place I want MY government to give money (see Oil for Food scandal), we don't need to be taxed into giving. The United States is a generous country and we WILL give a lot of money to this cause; we're just not going to give it to YOU to spend as you see fit.
The people who really need and deserve the money will get it, without you having the opportunity to cut your slice off of it.

P.S. Forget about a UN and/or world tax; it's not going to happen.
I just turned it on ,.. what did I miss?
You know she looks down her nose at those of us scrounging up $50 or whatever we can afford to send, but we all know how every bit of it helps (if it's sent to the right agencies) and it all adds up.
It's one thing for a UN official to bash Americans. I've had quite enough of our own countrymen like Connelly agreeing with them that we're all so baaaaaaaaaad and now "stingy", to boot. When we're not!
Go, Howlin, go!
Maybe they'll let YOU comment on Fox News! ;-)
My Email to mr egeland
Dear Mr. Egeland,
Your comment on the United States being Stingy only shows the need for the United States of America to remove itself from the United Nations and to evict the United Nations from the United States. The people of the United States have always been the greatest donaters to the needs of the people of the world.
I for one will be finding other avenues to donate to the disaster aid in Indonesia. You sir and the rest of the corrupt bureacracy of the United Nations can go straight to hell.

Isn't 43 supposed to speak about the disaster tomorrow? I hope he sticks up for the US.
High five on that point!!
But I'm not sure if Scott is out the door.
GOOD!
Can you tell I have about had enough?
Mad as hell works for me..Sammon listed all the private aid we give in addition to food aid..Per capita we give the most but not by the UN measurements..They measure it strictly by government aid...Socialist measure.
HA!
I was just thinking that when the piece just got done on Fox. "Tremendous animosity" they feel toward us. Well, we feel the same. I guess the relationship just isn't working out. I see a breakup in the near future!
I'm all for that; write up the petition!
Absolutely..she's also got the biggest set of "cojones"..God bless her..
What is CNN saying?
How much is France giving? Germany? Canada?
How much more taxes do Norwegians want to pay?
And how much do people give individually, without being taxed, from any of these places?
Right.. it is all America's fault.....The UU is making the case that they should get out of our country and get off our streets and stop taking every benefit of living in a free country supported by the American tax payer. They are pigs....every one of them.
Why don't they hunt down some of that oil for food money and build a whole new country for these poor folks.
I guess "the little people" don't count.
And BTW, who the heck funds the bloody IMF and World Bank? Because if American taxpayers help fill those coffers, too...
tnx, I'll get right on it.
