I don't know what, if anything, he has contributed to this effort, but I do know that he and his wife donated a billion dollars for children's immunizations. I wouldn't be surprised if he donated a large chunk here as well. I have heard that he and his wife plan to spend most of their money on humanitarian causes, and not leave much behind when they die.
I remember looking at a list about a year ago and was surprised to find out that MS management makes much less most other executives oddly enough.
Bill Gates and Paul Allen attribute much of their wealth int he value of their companies stock and are actually considered to be cash poor.
It's the executives in insurance companies, health care companies and the entertainment industry that make the most obscene pays and bonuses.
