This thread is for those who got diddly, nada, zilch, zip, zero Christmas Presents this year (or any other year). Come and commiserate. You're among friends here.
And to those of you who offer the beautiful homily, "It's better to give than receive", please take the time to have a nice tall glass of shaddup.

Tiki, you are the greatest! And, it sounds like you raised a great son. That's so romantic, a tradition of White Diamonds.
It's like having the worlds biggest video rental store right at your fingertips.
You get to rent three at a time (or can go for 5 at a time for a higher price)
Instead of going to the video store, you get the DVD's mailed to your front door. It takes about one to two days for the DVDs to arrive. You keep it as long as you want (though if you want the next item on your queue list to be sent to you, you will have to eventually return it). No late fees.
And to return the DVDs, you simply use the pre paid envelope they provide with each DVD and drop it in the nearest mailbox.
The price is quite reasonable. After the two week free trial is up, it costs 17.99 a month.
Blockbuster has recently dropped their price to 14.99 a month. Increased their DVD library to 30 thousand titles. They also have a free two week trial thing. But their website design sucks. It's kinda hard to surf around, especially for someone on dial up. If Blockbuster would change the design of their website, stop using so much java, that would be better.
And at the present, BB has about ten distribution centers (as opposed to Netflix's 25), but are increasing that to 23, and then even higher than that. (The closer you live to a distribution center, the faster the movies will get to you)
Plus, when you send your DVDs back to BB, they dont wait for those to arrive before sending out your next selections. The post office scans the bar code on the return envelope, thereby sending BB an electronic message that they have the DVD in hand and its on its way to them. Once BB gets that electronic confirmation, they send out your next selections to you. (I'm not sure if netflix is doing this too)
My problem with both outfits is that one can find some movies on Blockbuster that one wont find on netflix, and vicea versa. But this applies to rare old films and old TV shows.
My advice is to give netflix a try. It's free for the first two weeks. And if you dont like it, you can always cancel a day or two before the two weeks is up and not owe them a cent. (though if you have any DVDs on you when you cancel your free trial, you will have only ten days to return them)
(Actually, I did the Christmas thing with the family over Thanksgiving. Got some neat stuff. Oh yeah. And another cat.)
I love candles too. I have enough to open a small store.
Trapp are the best long lasting scented ones other than the very pricey Diptyque.
And yes when the electricity goes off I can always find my candles and NOT the flashlights which always seem to be hiding somewhere. LOL
No presents here. I think I will go out today and buy myself a few gifts...
Next year just buy yourself what you want, wrap it up, put it under the tree and you're all set.
Buy your wife a book on gift giving for dummies. LOL

What would I need all the "stuff" for when I had truly precious gifts? I can go buy my own "stuff". I'd rather have all the other.

Dear Lazzie - you spoke for my heart as well. I love giving gifts to the kids and grandkids. When asked what we want, I just tell them something "disposable" - - like food or flowers and if they really want to give us something close the heart - - pictures for the scrapbook. (I also let them know that they'll eventually be getting these photo albums back, so they better make them good!)
Why would I need more "junk" for my house? I'm like you - - good friends, dear family, the President I wanted (yeah!!), prayers for our troops, internal peace and the love only the Lord can give - -

I think the problem is just her family: her late mom thought of Christmas as an occasion to give you what you really NEED, rather than something you might want or have fun with. Guess I'm lucky I didn't get a gift-wrapped, 24-roll pack of toilet paper. That is something I could probably use, eventually.
