The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

As I surfed the 'net last week, I saw January 17th and January 19th marked on some of the online calendars.

I don't recalll which specific sites because I look at so many.

That's interesting riri. You never know these days. Was he in a hurry to get to work, or meet someone, or... (rhetorical question), you just never know.

I was amazed. No wonder I've seen Arabic graffiti while travelling amtrak from Philly to NY---now that list was some 8-10 years ago- imagine it has grown exponentiallly.....

Yup that is interesting. The Beaverton (suburb of Portland, OR) mosque that Brandon Mayfield attends got a much lower online profile after all the publicity. Purged all their older archives, etc. That mosque was on the Portland evening news the other night, talking about their fund raising for the tsunami victims. Why did they profile that mosque's efforts when there are much larger mosques in Portland? Little PCing going on I suspect.

EXPOSING BIGOTRY AGAINST ARABS: Area woman hits big time with film

SNIP: Like any other American, Salloum was shocked and saddened by the attacks. But she also said she believes that people, relying on what they see and read in the mass media, don't ask enough questions about what, historically or otherwise, may be behind the actions of those who carry out terrorist acts.

"You have to reach beyond what the media tells you. The people who carried out those hijackings feel just as justified as the U.S. government does in bombing and killing people in Iraq," Salloum said.

A Terrorist Lawyer on Trial
By Brian Hecht
FrontPageMagazine.com | January 17, 2005

It is rare when average citizens have the ability to decide how the United States government conducts the War on Terror. However, an anonymous federal jury in New York has just been tapped with such an opportunity.

On Wednesday, January, 12, the jury for radical defense attorney Lynne Stewart began deliberating her fate. Stewart stands accused of willfully and knowingly conspiring to conceal the terrorist activities of her client, Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, the infamous Egyptian “blind cleric” and leader of the Al-Gama’a Islamiyya terrorist group.

Welcome. If you are interested in terrorist hunting Threat Matrix is a great place.

Dear FBI, Masood Azhar is in Pakistan
And his kind remain thorns in the side of good neighbourly relations

A team of investigators from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation are scheduled to arrive in New Delhi, to collect more evidence against Masood Azhar, chief of the jihadi organisation known variously as Harkat-ul-Ansar, Jaish-e-Mohammed or Khuddam-ul-Islam.

They are in the wrong place. Unless the FBI is merely going through the process of carrying out an investigation, its sleuths should be knocking on the doors of the authorities in Pakistan, who have already refused to hand him over.

Interestingly, the Pakistani authorities see India’s cooperation with the FBI investigation as ‘upping the ante‘. If so, it is well past the time such antes are upped. An anonymous Pakistani official sought to draw a parallel with the British House of Lords ruling against the extradition of a Bollywood composer accused of murder. The Lord’s would have been shocked to hear that they had made this decision not because of their concerns over finer points of evidence law and the death penalty but because the Lords felt that as a Muslim, he would not get justice in India!

Pakistan is not Great Britain, and Masood Azhar is not Nadeem Saifee. The ’slow progress of confidence-building measures (due to Indian intransigence) is a common refrain in Pakistan; but as long as the Pakistani government brazenly protects wanted terrorists and gangsters, it will be impossible to have any confidence in Pakistani intentions.

Aww geez. Not this again :-)

KABUL (Online): Afghan officials claim hundreds of Taliban fighters from Eastern Afghanistan are ready to respond positively to the amnesty offer by the United States as they want to lead a peaceful life, now.

Asadullah Wafa, the Paktia governor, informed BBC Radio that some Taliban fighters recently met with the tribal leaders representing the Afghan government.

He said the US forces had been asked to avoid harassing or arresting those Taliban who wanted reconciliation with the Afghan authorities.

He described the talks very successful and said the Taliban had pledged to abandon the anti-state activities and in return, they would enjoy a peaceful life. The governor said Taliban fighting the Afghan or US coalition forces were in thousands and their strength in Paktia province was around 300.

He refused to disclose names of those holding talks with the government functionaries and claimed they committed only minor crimes.

He said Dr. Zalmay Khalilzad, the US envoy, would hold meeting with the tribal elders before Eid-ul-Azha.
