Los Alamos Security Dumps Humvees For Better-Armored Vehicle

Security police at Los Alamos National Laboratory have scrapped their Humvees in favor of the Lenco BearCat, which they said has better armor.

The BearCat is a 15,000-pound, blast-resistant, bulletproof vehicle that seats 10 and costs $300,000, said lab officials. While armor can be added to a Humvee, the Lenco BearCat comes with it.

This is just a short article, but I thought it was interesting, and important. LANL has had some security problems over the last few years, and there's enough top-secret research (as well as nasty weapons-grade stuff) there that better protection for the special response team is a must.

I worked at the Hanford nuclear site for almost 2 years. They spent a helluva a lot of money to update one of the buildings, and never finished. What a waste.

OH! Goodie! At $300K a piece! Our 'boys and girls" will be kill proof. This will be a great lesson to that awful Bush and his crowd that invented this stupid idea of worldwide terrorism. Maybe now they can work on a better version of their ill-concieved "Exit Plan".

Yes.

Actually, that was my first thought.

But I also don't want weapons-grade plutonium, or nuclear waste (there's plenty at LANL) getting into the wrong hands. It doesn't take a genius to make a dirty bomb.
