There are many AMERICANS who REFUSE to do work.

That's a good argument for gutting welfare (then they must work to survive), but not necessarily for hiring illegal aliens or having guest workers undercutting American wages.

That right price is determined by the market, but when the market is bypassed by illegal laborers willing to undercut what the market demands....well then you have legal immigrants and citizens being displaced by illegal aliens.

Don't forget foreign guest workers. They might be happy to work for less also.

All I can say is... please keep reasoning with these brainwashed ninnies. Maybe you can finally get through to them.

Depends on how much of the Bush Kool-aid they drank, I suppose...

I have 13 birds, mostly parrots, many of them rescues birds who were handicapped, lost or unwanted. All of them are my babies, and I don't see a damn thing funny about cracking down on parrot smugglers. And I'm a professional comedy writer. If it were up to me, they'd get the electric chair.

Those SOBs throw huge nets over entire trees full of these amazingly intelligent, sensitive birds; yank them from their nests; pack them into dark, airless boxes like sardines; and toss them around like luggage to smuggle them into the US. When they arrive here, the handful that manage to survive the hellish journey without suffocating, starving or being crushed to death end up getting sold at shady pet stores and flea markets, usually to people who know nothing about their proper care and nutrition, and who often lock them in tiny, dirty cages with bad food and filthy water. A lot of people only buy them as "decorations," not realizing how desperately they crave social interaction, and ignore them until they literally go insane and mutilate themselves.

Still laughing, Congressman? How about if we start treating our politicians that way? They're much more deserving of it than any poor innocent parrot, and maybe it would teach them to think before talking, something most of my birds learned long ago.

Absolutely, this is just a government handout program to construction, agriculture, service industries, etc.

I wonder what the open border losertarians think about the government subsidizing all these industries because they don't want to pay market rates.

Prove it. If you have a more accurate number, please share it with us.

No proof was offered that it is even remotely accurate. If those unemployed people, 8 million or so -- well, actually a lot less than that because the unemployment rate includes people who've quit their previous job and haven't started their next one, were actually willing to work for what they're worth instead of demanding whatever cushy arrangement they had in their last job, the majority could find a job.

"incredible success that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers enjoyed in apprehending smugglers attempting to illegally smuggle 150 Lilac Crowned and Mexican Redhead Amazon Parrots into the United States."

Just the tip of the iceberg. Thousands of illegal Mexican Parrots flood American pet stores each year. Just like illegal Mexican drugs and illegal Mexican aliens they too cause huge damage to the American economy. Oh, the horror... the horror..... sob...

As an American, I have always been inspired by the fact that my country welcomes those who seek refuge. And as long as our government officials maintain our borders and ensure that those coming from other countries are screened in order to protect those who legally live here, the concept of welcoming immigrants is a noble one. However, something has gone awry. Indeed, illegal immigration into the U.S. has become an immense problem and a clear and present danger. Documented illegal immigration has more than doubled in the last decade. It has grown, by conservative counts, from 3.5 million in...

Really, the problem is American consumers who constantly demand higher-and-higher-quality goods at the lowest price.

"...if somebody who is here working wants to be a citizen, they can get in line like those who have been here legally..."

It is high time that the President and everyone else begin to understand that the line to wait for citizenship has to be formed on the south side of the US/Mexican border. Those on this side illegally should be deported and not allowed in the line for some period of time - say 5 or 10 years, and then only if they have remained south of the border.

not necessarily for hiring illegal aliens or having guest workers undercutting American wages.

I am completely for bringing illegal entry into this country back under control - but that's not what I am discussing here.

If you completely eliminated illegals from the picture, the minimum wage is still the minimum wage and you are not going to get min-wage jobs to pay $12-$15/hour just to provide Americans jobs who are not willing to work for $7/hour.

If you LEGISLATE $15/hour, costs will go up to equalize that burden and then you will need $23/hour and the cycle begins again.

So what do businesses do when they can't get 15,000 hand laborers to come to where the crops are ready for harvest or new developments are being constructed or neighborhoods need work? Again, I'm not justifying anything, I'd like to hear some real solutions and not suppositions where Americans will supposedly do any job and that businesses should just suck it up and pay $25/hour for hand labor jobs.

Tell me about it. We got SARS from China, remember. My only point is that it is a valid concern, and the Congressman should spend his time better. There's an additonal worry: Infectious diseases carried by non-human animals are much more transmittable to other non-human animals than to humans. While people have (or can develop) immunities, can be vaccinated or treated, animals cannot, and the resulting epidemic(s) could devastate the food supply. There is much work to be done on many fronts.

So don't buy from producers who use sweat-shop labor; buy Union Made. Rememeber that label? They pretty much killed themselves, didn't they?

"Most importantly, I support the people of my vanishing nation. We are refugees in our own land. Each new day is cultural shock for those with traditional values."

Now you know how we feel here in Canada. Not only have we lost our land, our government disses those who are our friends.

I FReep you a Merry Christmas!

It's not a silly as it sounds.

Oh, yes it is!

While I agree the borders need to be protected from illegal humans (pleasse don't send them here), there are many danges posed by animals. Ever heard of Bird Flu, Congressman? How about West Nile Virus? Leptospirosis? All carried and transmitted by birds.

And just what do you attribute the recent revival of POLIO and TUBERCULOSIS to? The ILLEGAL INFILTRATORS bring disease too, but I guess they bring the diseases "other American's aren't willing to contract"!

If it's bad for the animals to illegally enter...why is it ok for the populace?
