HARRISBURG, PA-The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, Americans United for Separation of Church and State and attorneys with Pepper Hamilton LLP filed a federal lawsuit today on behalf of 11 parents who say that presenting "intelligent design" in public school science classrooms violates their religious liberty by promoting particular religious beliefs to their children under the guise of science education.
"Teaching students about religion's role in world history and culture is proper, but disguising a particular religious belief as science is not," said ACLU of Pennsylvania Legal Director Witold Walczak. "Intelligent design is a Trojan Horse for bringing religious creationism back into public school science classes."
The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United Executive Director, added, "Public schools are not Sunday schools, and we must resist any efforts to make them so. There is an evolving attack under way on sound science...Read More

Yeah, the public schools are the perfect place to send your kid if you want him to only be taught the facts, untainted by any belief system or ideology.
If you don't believe me, just ask the "Reverend" Barry Lynn.
It sure seems that way.
"What the ACLU wants is only one belief to be taught, not both in a side-by-side nature. "
You need to learn to differentiate between religious viewpoints and scientific theories. One is supported by faith alone. The other is supported by evidence, logic, other science, and the scientific method.
ROFL!! :-)
I am unfortunately quite focused when it comes to my son. In fact, I will NOT "demand" my rights in this arena...if necessary, I will simply take them.
I was only being polite, as a civilized man should.
It is quite plain that the IDers and YEC's desire to ensure that my son is taught religion in school. THEIR religion, let's be honest, if they were but given half a chance.
They may teach their own children their mythologies to their heart's content, and with my full support and defense of that Right.
Should my son eventually desire to enter the scientific field, he will face less competition.
I will NOT tolerate his indoctrination into ANY religion in a government school.
Stephen Hawking was talking trash about your momma!
(though somehow it didn't have a lot of impact)
"Should my son eventually desire to enter the scientific field, he will face less competition."
I have made that exact point, and the other points you make , endlessly, on other boards.
Let them keep it up!! So much the better for my kids, who have already received solid scientific educations.
Darwinism in action....:D
The theory of evolution is not a "belief". It is a scientific theory. I do not believe in evolution. However, I do accept the preponderance of evidence supporting the theory of evolution.
"Stephen Hawking was talking trash about your momma!"
OH G_D!!! STOP!!!!! OH LOLOLOLOL!!!!
LOL! I wish I knew him well enough that he could or would. :-)
One of the reasons I encourage conservatives to abandon the (left-wing) government schools is because of the low intellectual quality of those institutions. You guys act like those political indoctrination centers are churning out Isaac Newtons and Thomas Edisons on a daily basis.
I'd match a randomly selected (for you evolutionists) group of 100 Christian homeschooled kids against a randomly selected group of 100 evolution-only public school kids any day.
Me too. I busted out laughing (out loud) when I read that. :-)

So did hubby and even the puppy was howling.
ROFL. Wiping tears from my eyes. You made me bust out laughing again. :-)
And how different is this when a kid being taught evolution in school has been spurned on to read something related to the topic? It sounded like it was just a simple matter of fact statement - get taught something about ID and read a Book that says 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth'. You make it sound like there is an agenda there - care to flesh that one out a bit more? What are you afraid of?
However, as a parent myself of a child who will be starting school in a few years, I would respectfully ask that you leave his religious instruction to ME, and not the government.
Absolutely agreed - and since evolution is something that also must be accepted totally on faith, can you leave my children's religious training to ME - and stop asking me to pay for YOUR children's religious instruction through tax dollars supporting public education?
"You guys act like those political indoctrination centers are churning out Isaac Newtons and Thomas Edisons on a daily basis."
UH, no. Where has anyone even implied that? Most Evos on this board would have no problem with government schools going the way of the Dodo.
"I'd match a randomly selected (for you evolutionists) group of 100 Christian homeschooled kids against a randomly selected group of 100 evolution-only public school kids any day."
Be careful.
Sorry to bust your bubble, but the theory of evolution is not faith based.
I really, really, hate it when the Da** liberals are right and the conservatives are wrong.
However, ID is not science.
Most people who argue the evolution vs. ID (or creationism) issue argue from the perspective of which perspective is "true." However, the definition of science isn't "truth."
Truth may be faith-based. And faith based truth is valid, but it is not science.
Science is defined by method. And central to that method is: 1) logic and 2) unbiased estimation. Namely, you cannot start out with a preconceived notion and set out to prove it. You may start out with an hypothesis and seek to prove or disprove it. Logic enters by: just because one theory is incomplete (or incorrect) doesn't mean another theory is true.
ID fails these tests. It is not science. It might be reasonable religion. However, there are far better examples.
Moreover, evoluton isn't religion and it isn't anit-religion. Many of us believe in evolution and we are also Christians. There is no logical connection between the two.
I agree with the poster who asserted that religious education is fine so long as it is identified as such. ID can be taught as religion, if someone wants to. It cannot be taught as science because it isn't. Evolution is ambivalent toward religion, and it is good science.
So.... how can it be good science if it has many discrepancies??? Because good science isn't defined by being "correct". It is defined by the mechanism and approach to discovery. Consider the history of gravity:
1. Concensus was that the earth was the center of the Universe.
2. Copernicus and Newton proved this wrong. Earth revolved around the sun. However, there was a universal frame of reference.
3. Einstein proved them wrong: all inertial frames of reference are equally valid. (Special Relativity).
4. Einstein proves them wrong again: all non-inertial frames of reference are equally valid. (General Relativity). Now, the earth can be the center of the universe again because it is a valid solution to the general relativity equations. However, gravity still scales as 1/r squared.
5. Recent cosmological evidence demonstrates that the 1 / r squared law is not correct. Everybody proven wrong again.
This is real science.
You.........momma..........is............so.......dumb.............it.......takes........her.......two......hours...to......watch 60 Minutes.....
(okay, I admit it. That's a bit cruel)
I was crushed I tell ya, crushed!!
