Laura Bush is getting another Oscar.
Designer Oscar de la Renta, who outfitted the First Lady for her big nights at the Republican convention and the Kennedy Center Honors, will dress her for the inauguration.
Her office confirms the incredibly important news that the gown will be ice blue.
Meanwhile, daughters Jenna and Barbara have chosen the younger, edgier design team of Badgely Mischka.
"They want slinky and sexy," a spy tells us. "The dresses are going to be figure-hugging with slits and sequins and decolletage."
All of the ladies will be equipped with matching coats - to protect them as they bounce around from ball to ball.

OMG. It that really a picture of Rosalyn Carter's dress? I'd forgotton how truly awful it was -- or perhaps I never saw it with it's "cloak". I remember that it was a dress 'recycled" from Jimmeh's Gubernatorial Inaugurations, and it looked like it -- quite out of style by 1977.
Who in the HELL designed that uglya$$ dress?
Ice blue is only for the "young"? What the hell?? Who died and made you the color God???
If you ARE now the new color God, please post the list so all the rest of us peons will know what to wear. Wouldn't want to put on puce under the age of 74, ya know...
Oh, great...Laura Bush is stepping in the poo that the Clintons left behind.
You might want to brush up on your reading skills there, bucko. They is plural, as in the twins. There's nothing wrong with two young women wanting to look sensationally slinky and sexy.
Mrs. Bush has never dressed inappropriately and I sincerely doubt either she or the twins will be dressed inappropriately this time. Also, for your information Mrs. Bush is a beautiful, sexy, vibrant fiftyish woman and there's nothing wrong with that!
Some women like to be neat and well groomed because they care about themselves. Some like to reflect credit on their Maker. This doesn't require an expensive wardrobe -- it can be accomplished in any attire that is well-kept, neat and clean, even jeans and a nice shirt.
Of course, when women are involved in sports activities, doing yard work,or ill, etc., it's a bit different.
Young whipper snappers! I bet it's on that Gen X ping list that talks about how us old people have ruined the world for 'them.'
You're kidding, right? She's 50, not 90. She looks great and should dress the part! She always did dress well, flatteringly to her figure and all. I doubt very much she'll dress like a sleaze or be corrupted, so far so good.
That is NOT ice blue.
Is that true? She really had a dress remade for the day her husband was inaugurated as the president of the United States of America?
That is true, and she didn't have it remade. she just wore it. Made a big deal out of it that she wasn't so "wasteful" as to purchase a new dress, and this one had sentimental memories. That might have been OK, if it weren't so ugly.
It's one FUGLY dress!
Looks about the same basic range to me.
Given our track record to date on the UN's behalf, I think "cold as ice" blue is probably most appropriate for them. After all, Dante has Satan encased in ice up to his chest, his bat-web wings blowing frosty dead air on those whose sins landed them at the bottom of the bolgias.
Particularly given all the nonsense over Red and Blue this year -- if not also 24 more dead today -- I should think green, the color of Hope, might have been a nice way to go.
But that's just me.
I was being tongue in cheek, and trying to simplify matters for the crazy one would thought that the twins dressing slinky and sexy was akin to "stepping in the Clinton's poo".
I think the dress pictured is one with the coat over it. I've forgotten what the top looked like, but I don't remember that brocade coat. I do remember the pleated skirt, however. Those long chiffon sleeves were sort of a seventies thing, but already on the way out in 1976. The blouson sleeves in the coat may have been worn over slim chiffon sleeves. Or, the dress could have been sleeveless. Ugly, ugly.
LOL
Don't forget that it is said she is "earthy". I always took that to mean she smells French.
Me-effing-ow.Her office confirms the incredibly important news that the gown will be ice blue.Saucer of milk, anyone?
Check out the top picture in #64 for something approaching ice blue. I still think Mrs. Bush is stunning in the jewel colors like ruby, garnet, emerald, saffire -- and white would work too. It's a color thing -- she's a "winter". But she'll be gorgeous in ice blue, especially if it has a sheen to the fabric.
But is so much fun to occasionally get dressed up. Why just the other night we went to my husband's Christmas party and I took care to look good from my hair to my shoes. I even hoped I looked a little--dare I say it?---sexy.
It best have plenty of sheen if there's that much white in it.
I can see where dramatic and dark has its day but I think she looks best when she goes for the brighter colors.
('Course I've been getting this same advice for years and have yet to take it.)
