That is true, and she didn't have it remade. she just wore it. Made a big deal out of it that she wasn't so "wasteful" as to purchase a new dress, and this one had sentimental memories. That might have been OK, if it weren't so ugly.

You know, when you think about it, it was a dumb thing for Mrs. Carter to do. If a Repub had done it, the MSM would have been howling that she wasn't supporting the fabric mills and the workers. And remember, John F. Kennedy single-handedly put the hat makers out of work when he went bare headed.

OMG, you're bringing back horrible memories of the Carter administration ... I'm starting to have flashbacks of "WIN" buttons, ads with people wearing buttoned up sweaters about 68 degree thermostat settings, and long gas lines, LOL!
