I would be against any special restrictions on a person because of his ethnicity or religion if he is an American citizen. I am sure it would be against the law.

I have Muslim friends and they are perfectly normal. They think Bin Laden is a nut case. Many American Muslims are middle-class professionals who have a good life here and would not risk all their have achieved for this murderer Bin Laden.

I think our government is capable of tracking beople based on their actions, not their religion.

I am religious and usually Republican but I think this is a terrible idea. I would be totally against it.

"I have Muslim friends and they are perfectly normal."

People said the same thing in France and Holland. The local Muslims, the ones born there, were doing just fine. No problems. Then about 10 years ago, the head scarfs and the beards started showing up. Then the radical clerics. Now the terrorism.

The bottom line, they are ticking time bombs.

This debate brings to the fore a most complicated and acutely important aspect of the Islamic challenge to Western Democracy -- and the long-term threat implicit therein.

IMO, no procedures or techniques introduced into the national fabric of social discourse will be adequate to compete against this civilizational confrontation over the long term. We will continue to have these minor "flaps" over the cultural and political aspects of this confrontation, but we will fail to address the threat in its totality.

I suspect that even when we have another major national event comparable to 9/11, the debate will rage as to whether we should re-introduce mandatory national service, etc. And, there will be the do-gooders that will be perfectly content to let our increasingly "hessianized"
all-volunteer force continue to do our heavy national lifting.

Europe is already lost. Leicester, England is already majority Muslim, if one could have imagined. Sweden will be over 50% Islamic within two decades, etc. The ludicrous EU discussions about deportation on one hand, flies in the face of the debate relative to Turkish inclusion on the other. And, so it goes on the "lost continent".

IMO, there is absolutely nothing that can be realistically be done to address this issue at the national level that ultimately does not have the support of the populace. And, that, is the great difficulty here.

Civilizational and attendant cultural transitions are measured in decades and centuries. The American people are horribly equipped to perceive -- and ultimately come to grips -- with a challenge of this magnitude, couched in demographic and multi-faceted socio-political terms of long-term portent.

Thank you for your patience. DKP

"I think our government is capable of tracking beople based on their actions, not their religion."

For most people religion involves certain actions. In the case of Islam their religion often involves gathering together in places where there is an opportunity to make contact with people who consider the destruction of America their religious duty.

Personally, I hope to God that the U.S. has intelligence agents closely watching every major mosque in the U.S. If the CIA, FBI is too politically correct to do it then maybe Israel can send some Mossad agents over here to watch the Mosques for us.

I have Muslim friends and they are perfectly normal.

And so are the Muslims that plan mischief and are in waiting to execute it.

They think Bin Laden is a nut case.

The can only say that Bin Laden is a nut case. So can those who don't think Bin Laden is a nut case.

Many American Muslims are middle-class professionals who have a good life here and would not risk all their have achieved for this murderer Bin Laden.

Then by the word of their holy book, and the commands of their prophet, they are not Muslims, which makes them infidels.

Sad, but true.
