My wife and I just got word from my daughter's college that we will be shocked when we see her tonight, when she gets home for Christmas break. We were fairly shocked at Thanksgiving, at the weight she'd dropped. Her personality is off, she has lost her sense of humor, has mood swings, her menstruation has stopped, she can barely sleep. She's eating, but not much. A few granola bars a day, and water. She is not skeletal, certainly, but way too thin, and her "spark" is gone. She may or may not be taking some vitamin supplements we got her. Though she is not officially diagnosed, she exhibits enough signs of the syndrome that saying, "Let's wait and see" is simply major denial. She's got it. My wife is scrambling right now, looking for the right local program or specialist in our area (Pittsburgh) to deal with her. The situation is dire.
The pressure on girls and young women to look a certain way--like the models in fashion magazines--is enormous. She has to come to accept that her outward appearance is not what determines her worth, even though far too many foolish people, especially those around her age, feel otherwise.
My heart and my prayers are with you. I am pinging some of the prayer warriors to lend assistance.
May God bless you with the guidance and strength needed to see your daughter and your family through this ordeal.
Thank you for the ping ((((Rob)))))
My advice would be useless - my prayers added to all the others.
Prayers for your daughter, JR .....
"Maybe she should be kept home for a semester, if possible, for care and support from you."
Or two. And then enroll her in a college near you, as another poster suggested.
I think that some outside, accumulating influence at the college is affecting her behavior and spirituality. You must break this negative influence and bring her home asap.
Look up anorexia on Google. They have all kinds of support groups and info there. My granddaughter had the symptoms but refused to discuss the subject.
"One thing is control - she may feel that she may not have control over alot of things in life but her weight is one thing she can control."
It may also be her way of rebelling against something. I wager that this rebellion did not come out of thin air and that its agents came from within her college.
Some antidepressents cause seizures in bullimics...Wellbutrin
John,
Love her unconditionally. 90% of anorexia is "inheirited" from the father.
May the tears of Jesus heal your child...
Please post your replies to John Robertson
John Robertson, My prayers go up for your family. God's protection over your daughter. Lord, please help this family. Provide them with knowledge of what they need to do to help their daughter. Provide this family with comfort and peace. Surround them with your love. In Jesus' precious name. Amen
dansangel, thank you for the ping.
Blessings,
trussell
If you want on/off my prayer ping list, please let me know. All requests happily honored.
I agree with that --- only some kids are ready to handle the pressures of college and being far from home. Especially if they've been sheltered and protected from the world in some way --- it can be very jolting --- which is why suicides have become a problem in universities.
Father Lord we ask for your devine intervention in the life of this young lady, may she overcome this eating disorder quickly without any lasting side effects. In the name of Jesus, amen.
bump!
I had major depression and suicide attempt my first year of college. It was a complete and absolute culture shock. I had no idea. It was almost like a lamb to the slaughter. It has taken me thirteen years almost to unravel the damage.
Tell her guys don't like to date super skinny girls. Good luck.
BTTT!
Offering my prayers
Thank you, so much.
No PETA influence that I know of. I wish she WERE a vegan, at least there's some healthy stuff there. Thanks.
