The younger they are the more they like it!!!

Obviously these polls are wrong, especially for the democrats.
The word has not filtered down yet
Bush is evil, Bush is a corporate puppet, Bush is too stupid to fix SS, etc, etc, etc.
Only democrats are compassion enough to really fix SS. Evil republicans are at it again trying to steal your money.

It would be a political coup if W can make SS reform a wedge issue against the 'rats.

The younger they are the more they like it!!! Yes, and that's one of the reasons liberals in the Democratic Party and the legacy media will pull out all the stops to defeat it. It has the potential to bind a whole generation to the GOP for their lifetimes, just as FDR bound a generation with the advent of Social Security.

New poll options:
- Should people be allowed to choose whether they want to participate in government programs like Social Security, especially in cases where the program's creation only came about after repeated assurances that it would always be voluntary (as was the case with Social Security)?
100% Yes
0% No

Except when polls show sKerry winning the election! =P

Just give the media a few months, they will have Democrats convinced that this is an evil plan by Bush to force elderly to eat dog food.
To: KMC1
This is great! Now, if we can get them on board for changing the the tax code.

The younger they are the more they like it!!! The 29% of those under 30 who say no have me worried. Are there that many stupid young people? It's a no-brainer for anyone under 45 years of age.

The way I see the program explained around here, I don't see a downside.
People have their private retirement accounts, but if the accounts fail to generate the income that a person would otherwise get under social security, the government will make up the difference.
As everyone is counting on the accounts to at least generate the paulty income that SS would deliver, no one is expecting that SS will have to step in for those people with the accounts (or something like that).

Don't forget Bush's plans to hold all seniors' medications on strings over their heads just high enough so they can't reach.
That stupid bas-no, wait, that evil gen-dammit..what are the Dims calling him this week? Stupid or evil genius? I can't keep track.

not me! I'd prefer that whopping 2% return on my confiscated money.

Are you really serious??? This is a FOX News poll, do you really believe, based on a FOX News poll, that Democrats favor privatizing social security??? Holy NIGHT!!!
To: Rakkasan1
I just found out yesterday that you can opt out of Social Security if you want but you are not eligible for any benefits ever.
The company still has to pay the other 7.5% to the IRS.
I am working out the spreadsheet now.

Also, exit polls showed Kerry won Ohio...that's how much integrity I have in polls...

The biggest problem facing SS reform is AARP and their power, blue hairs voting power combined with the young not voting.
The young can be for SS reform 100%, but if they continue to sit on the couch instead of going to the polls it won't matter.
To: Mikey_1962
That is not true. You have to be employed with a governmental entity that opted out of SS prior to 1984 if memory serves me right.
If you have different information and a rock solid, legal, and indisputable way for me to opt out of SS I will do so tomorrow.

The 29% of those under 30 who say no have me worried. Are there that many stupid young people? It's a no-brainer for anyone under 45 years of age.I would guess that's from people who don't understand how SS works. I'd imagine that it's from folks who think that the money they pay into SS is *theirs,* rather than being used to pay current SS recipients.
Just a guess.

"The biggest problem facing SS reform is AARP"
AARP was bought and sold years ago. The sooner their members realize that, the sooner we can get a huge block of voters back on board with the common sense train.
