You did not answer the question of how many are Mac based?

Check out the Apple Store online... there are great deals on refurbs (which carry a full warranty).

If you use your computer to do work you'll want a G5. Otherwise I'd take a look at the new iMac G5.

Cheers!

I ran on PC's for 10 years. Part of the daily operation is warding of bugs, and viruses (sp? - viri?), the other major part of my time was calling the IT guy to come fix the hang ups and other myriad of problems.

Switched to Apple 2 years ago. NOT 1 SINGLE PROBLEM WITH OSX!

Not saying that Apple is the answer for everybody or that I am superior - it is simply the facts as I have found them to be. I Love my powerbook.

Even my wife says that they are a superior machine and operating system, and she is by no means a fan of Apple.

Oooh! Oooh!

The Autostart Worm; don't forget the Autostart Worm.

That was circa 1996 or thereabouts, and I had to (gasp) DELETE A FILE! Curses!

On the serious side, I think the windoze guys do have (kind of) a point. The greater market share means a tremendously increased chance of people who haven't heard of Norton AntiVirus or any competitor thereof.

One of my best friends, for instance, runs his business off his home office setup. He calls me for tech support. I told him I might be able to lend a hand w/hardware and productivity/utility software, but that as a Mac Guy, if he needed OS support, I was NOT his guy.

Well, to make a long story short, there were no hardware failures to cause his problem (hard disk shutting down w/o warning). The disk was pretty new, so the odds of a lemon, I thought, were long.

Had him buy AntiVirus by Symantec. He ran the program. Great day in the morning, that man had several HUNDRED virii floating around on his computer. He had NEVER run antivirus software, he had a constant internet connection, etc.

Two years. On a Wintel platform. NEVER ran antivirus.

THAT, IMHO, is a BIG part of why the hackers like the Wintel platform. Lots of people who want the cheapest, and have little or no clue about anything beyond business/games. It's a digital petri dish.

I use to work for Macintosh (Crapintosh). Most people there are so left wing you think they were totally stoned. The last conversation I had with one of their people was this girl telling me she was so repressed by the capitalist america she couldn't express herself. And that America wasnt a Democracy. So I pulled out my RNC membership card, then I suddenly only had 3 people that would talk to me. They are like George Soros whacko!
So if you want a mac just send your money to Moveon.org or the ACLU and get it overwith

What big internet servers are Macs?

The latest Netcraft web server survey finds only 21% of .com domains are using MS server software. I wonder why?

Netcraft shows Apache at 67%. Apache can run on just about any OS: Mac X/Linux/Unix, Novell Netware, Microsoft Windows, and some EBCDIC machines. Just because they're not running MS IIS doesn't mean they're Macs.

I, for One, am more comfortable being one of the enlightened 6 than being one of the 500 proles whose OS/machine is dependent upon a company that ignores its flaws until they're screamed-about in public (kinda like Kofi and Koko(?) when it comes to oil-for-food; but they're a little slower yet than µsoft)...

I didn't say they were on Macs, I was merely pointing out the rapidly declining population of Wintel boxes out there serving http.

Why do you feel you must post all of this negativity about the Mac. If you don't like them, don't buy one. You seem to have no clue about them, anyway! Your posts reveal a total ignorance of computer technology, or at least, make you appear really stupid. Which is it?

I could run any Windows/PC program, on my Mac, with SoftWindows... but who would want those? Mac programs are much more stable, and work efficiently with the system, by design. There are any type of programs available, from all vendors, to run on Mac specific platforms, and they usually run circles around the comparable WinTel stuff...Can you say the same about your Wintel box? (NOT!)

Besides, Macs look great, too!

iMac G5

An engineering marvel, the new iMac tucks the computer and speakers inside the expansive flat-panel display—"an advance as welcome as the day that VCR/DVD players were encased in the TV monitor box," says Thompson. Built-in wireless technology lets you use a cable-free keyboard and mouse.

I use to work for Macintosh (Crapintosh)...

Sweeping floors, or emptying the trash?

I worked for a funeral home when I was in college. Most people there are dead...

By your logic then you should be no fan of microsoft stuff either as all those guys are very liberal. It is the nature of the industry. That is a bogus argument that apple is bad because they are a "liberal" company.

By the same token one should never buy an American made car because for every car you buy you are putting money in the pockets of the AFL-CIO which is just a s liberal as Apple. (BTW I don't buy American cars because the are ugly and built like crap, but you understand my analogy.)

As long as you do not have a need to run any popular software on your computer a Mac will work just fine for you. lol

Name one that won't.

A virus will propagate on a MAc, one only needs to spend lthe time to develop the software, but why waste you time to attack 6 machines.

Even if that was the only reason why Macs get fewer viruses... Macs get fewer viruses.

It's always a crackup when Windows users argue that their machines are better because they're more infectious.

My work is easier, faster, and more enjoyable on my Mac. The equipment and software are made for people who want to use it, not for people who want to keep fiddling with the guts of their tools.

That's it - in a nutshell. My Mac makes me happy.

Cheers! CC :)

P.S. Gotta love these threads and the comments they draw.

Having a little fun? You might as well go after peoples' ancestry, except they won't take it as personally. Hell, I'm loyal to Macintosh because it's all I've ever used. I can see the other side of the argument too. It all depends on what you value.

I happen to value quality and performance. :P
