Glory. It's why they all do it. No profit in it (unless the virus WRITERs work for a virus SCANNER company, as I have thought possible.)

It hasn't been done.

Look, I don't care. If Windows is good enough for you, then use it. But I do wonder why so many people claim that Windows computers are cheaper, and then spend hours and hours on dealing with virus crap and antivirus crap, and value their own time at nothing.

Hehehe.. how about:

---BEGIN VIRUS---

This is a Unix virus. Email this text to five other Unix administrators and then execute the command

rm -rf /

---END VIRUS---

You must not have read my post. I said someone could spend the time to create a virus that would attck a Mac, but why waste the time on so few computers.

If it is software it can be hacked.

What big internet servers are Macs?

Right and that's my point, if it works for me and whatever you use works for you great. I don't have virus problems because I have anti-virus software put out by the company's that probley write the virus's.

I'm not asking for much... how about it, just one virus name?

I doubt that would work (Unix admins are a bit more savvy than Windows droids) , but you might get more infections that I do with my tagline.

I read a story that some guy did a test - he made a script which sent an e-mail message back to him. He attached the script to a message and sent it to a hundred co-workers with the message that said VIRUS ATTACHED - DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT.

He got something like 60 messages back.

I don't have virus problems because I have anti-virus software put out by the company's that probley write the virus's.

And I don't have virus problems because my system is built more securely.

In any case, your claim that Mac users are behind most Windows viruses is stupid, and absurd.

Doubtless they didn't even bother to read the subject before opening or previewing the attachment. The human is the weakest link.

Your system is only more secure because hackers don't waste their time on so few clients to attack, not because it is a superior product. Someone with the knowledge and desire could create a virus to attack Mac's but what would be the point?

"Hackers create Mac virus and 25 Mac's crash and burn."

Or

"Hackers create PC virus and 25 Million PC's crash and burn."

Beta is actually a superior format to VHS. The reason VHS caught on is that Matsushita (the parent company of Panasonic, which developed the VHS format) licensed the hell out of it and propagated like a virus through electronics stores. More availablitiy means more purchasers, means more VHS taped in video rentals. Beta died because it was marketed poorly by Sony.

I work with PCs at the office and Macs at home. I do the same work on both machines. My work is easier, faster, and more enjoyable on my Mac. The equipment and software are made for people who want to use it, not for people who want to keep fiddling with the guts of their tools.

Stockpirate, drop the PC arrogance over the relative numbers. More people drive cheap and widely available pieces of junk than drive well-made, well-functioning cars that make the driving experience enjoyable. The same goes for computers. This thread started as a communique to people interested in an update to the Mac OS. Why do you feel compelled to attack with the same faulty info every time the subject comes up?

You are correct about the Beta format but the reason it failed was because they thought that the better product wuld out sell the 6 hour play and record format, and it didn't.

But that does not equate to the PC vs Mac situation. Mac's are no better and no worse than PC's.

I'm happy to leave it at that. I may be a strange bird, but I am glad there is such a thing as the Macintosh out there because I prefer. I know others who wouldn't touch, and believe it or not, I am actually friends with them.

Have a glorious day.

Your system is only more secure because hackers don't waste their time on so few clients to attack, not because it is a superior product.

Again, this has been disproven time and again. It's a canard.
The fact is there are NO viruses active for Mac OSX (I do remember the WDEF virus in 1990 or so, but that's dead). There are THOUSANDS active TODAY for Windows.

But it doesn't really matter, does it? You have to spend your time and money supporting an industry that does nothing (your virus / anti-virus industry), I don't. Whatever the reasons you think that's OK, it's still a fact.

What big internet servers are Macs?

The latest Netcraft web server survey finds only 21% of .com domains are using MS server software. I wonder why?

I have purchased my last five Macs from MacWarehouse, and have been happy with them...

I would recommend any of the G5 series, and make sure you get a model with Superdrive...it burns DVD's as well as the other -roms...

Seriously, though, if you want to try one out, hit either a CompUSA or Apple story (if there's one near you). CompUSA usually has an Apple section with an Apple pro on staff to answer your questions.

It is true that because the Mac has a smaller market share, there's not as much gear specifically built for them. Having said that, however, much of the gear that is available for PCs will work quite well with Macs. Quite some time ago they realized the need for being interactive with the mainstream, and they've done quite a good job of it.
