Happy days for Babs: Polyp is benign
NY Daily News ^ | December 15, 2004 | Rush & Molloy

Barbra Streisand says she's doing well after going under the knife to remove a polyp in her colon. "During a routine colonoscopy earlier this year, Barbra Streisand's doctor discovered a benign polyp," her rep told us. "The removal of the single polyp was done earlier this month, and its benign nature was reaffirmed. It did not delay her scheduled promotional activities for 'Meet the Fockers.'"

The "Yentl" star, nervous about surgery in general, seems to be okay.

"I don't think it's a big deal," one friend of Babs told us. "I just saw her last week, and she looked fine."

But The National Enquirer reports that Streisand was terrified that the polyp was cancerous.

"Shortly before the operation, Barbra was shaking and saying, 'It can't be cancer, it just can't,' " a source told the tab, which reports that the reason for the delay of the procedure was because Streisand is "deathly afraid of surgery."

Polyps can be an early sign of colorectal cancer, which affects 150,000 Americans a year.

She won't sell it. She'll build a new mansion to house the polyp sculpture in. And sing a song about it. And Hollywood will applaud. And polyp sculpture will be the next rage. And we will be outraged. And she will moan about our anti-polyp Nazi ways on her website. And W. will be blamed. And then it will be 2008. The new dem. playbook: Polyptics.

I saw an ad during the election for T-shirts that said FCUK Kerry! I thought that was a more appropriate use for this dumb concept.

IN her colon? I thought she WAS a colon

No, a colon is her clothing. She is what's enveloped by a colon.

Yeah, that's it.

What is French Connection UK? I don't get it. Just a name they have come up with so they could put FCUK on sweatshirts and perfume?

I can't believe we've got this far in a thread about Babs's benign polyp, and James Brolin hasn't been mentioned even once!

It's the sequel to the "Meet the in-laws" with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. Babs and Dustin Hoffman are Ben Stiller's parents that were not in the last movie. The first one was moderately amusing, now with Babs and Dusty, probably it's DOA. Sequels are usually a bust.

If I never see Babs, colon and polyps in the same sentence again it will be too soon. While she is a douchebag, I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone. Close though.

At least the polyp is free now.

Deathly afraid of surgery to remove a polyp? Oh, please spare me from the bullsheet.

I had a colonoscopy a year ago, a routine screening test I asked my family doctor to set up. They found 8 polyps and removed them at the time. There was even a big TV screen on the wall where I could watch if I wanted. It was nothing.

Ask your doctor to set you up for a colonoscopy. Colon cancer starts from a polyp, and if you have them removed you will probably never get it.

Gee, I had a colon test done and the Doc removed a benign polyp from mine too - I wonder if I should call the local news folks so everyone has the privilege of this non-story...

I notice that the trailer for ''Meet the Fockers'' on TV sure doesn't feature Barbra - I don't think she's even shown. I so hope the producers realize by hiring her they probably reduced their box office by 50% even before there was any word of mouth on how bad the movie is (and it looks really awful judging by that trailer). Gee, what a shame.

There is only one reason I definitely won't be going to see this movie. And I LOVED the first one.

I thought you meant she and James Brolin broke up.

My mistake...
