The Bible passage refers to a comparison, and to individual choice. Just as an infant has committed no atrocity to deserve to be killed inside the womb, likewise outside. This mother should be locked up.
Nope. First of all, she doesn't understand what the Bible is saying. But putting that aside, the passage certainly was not referring to taking action against other people. So, if she really believed that then she should have cut off her own hand not someone else's.

It sounds to me like lawyers have come up with the perfect defense. Get your crazy client to blame it on the bible. It doesn't have to be true, the client just has to agree with the lawyer. It's much easier to make that defense than to explain how and why evil works.

Pick up your Bible, turn to the pages where Jesus talks about empathy and compassion (last time I checked, most of what the guy talked about fits this), and read it until it starts to make sense.
