Two parents are charged with child abuse and neglect after police say they left a seven-month-old boy outside in the cold.
Twenty-year-old Francisco Pinto-Gutierrez and 27-year-old Lacota Odette Stonearrow were arrested after their child was discovered in the Kmart parking lot. The father is also an illegal alien in the United States.
On a December day when winds blew at 40 miles an hour, a 7 month old baby boy was left outside to fight the elements on his own. A shopper discovered him sitting in the eastside KMart parking lot in his carseat.
Sgt. Dave Huntimer says, "It was wearing a coat and wrapped in a baby blanket."
The shoppers put the baby in their car to keep him warm, then called police who pieced together what led the child's parents to leave him outside.
Huntimer says, "They had a verbal argument over who was going to take care of the seven month old child. At that time she removed the seven month old from the vehicle and placed it in the parking lot with the father."
Thefather walked away; the mother drove away.
Police were able to arrest the baby's father before he left the parking lot. They tracked the mother to her home where they took her to jail.
Huntimer says, "The parents, neither one, had any response for us."
Luckily, police say the baby should be fine. He was outside between three and five minutes.
Huntimer says, "It was sleeping when we came in contact with it the entire time the baby was smiling."
But police aren't at all happy about what happened to the young child.
Huntimer says, "It's a tragedy, a terrible this especially this time of year. But I give credit to the people who immediately pick the child us, tried to keep it warm and called us right away."
Police also took a two year old girl away from the mother. Both children are now staying at Children's Inn. Jodi Schwan © 2004 KELOLAND TV. All Rights Reserved.
Uuuuugh.
Morals? Family Values? Even a sense of common decency maybe?
The mother is a Native American Indian I take it. Do they have some sort of religious belief that prevents them from practicing birth control? This woman sure as hell should have been on something if she didn't want to take care of her children.
Since when are children referred to as "it"? A human being should not be referred to as an "it".
The "child" was left in the cold. Not "it" was left in the cold.
Stupid reporters.

Ah. thank you. Bump.
Why, why, why do these people have children??! I am inclined to think in many of these cases the women keep the baby thinking they are going to snare the man. Why else would women like this have children?
"it" IT IT IT IT IT???????????? Does IT have a name, is IT a human being wth is wrong with people????? I belive there was a child name "it" who was abused, etc. he wrote a book about his life and how if felt to be named "it".
What bearing does her ethnicity have on being a bad parent?
An unfeeling SOB could make a cruel, Mendelian joke about this, but not me...
Yeah, that bugged me too. Why did he keep referring to the baby as an 'it'? He knew the baby was a boy, he should have at least said 'him'.
Anchor baby bump.
Perhaps in a statistical sense on analysis of the effects of cultural differences and insensitivity to native traits and traditions, who knows?
OK, the kid should be put up for adoption ASAP.
The reporter was quoting the police sergeant. I don't know how old the police
officer in question is, but I do know that a lot of older people refer to children less than a year old as 'it'. My grandmother (who is adamantly pro-life) does it all the time.
Possibly, but more likely just a case of bias causing one to paint a situation with a broad brush of ignorance instead of seeing two worthless individuals, regardless of their race.
Keep that in mind when you refer to democrats and reporters in the future.
I don't think this child was in any danger from the elements, it's SF! It's not cold there. The child was in danger of being kidnapped by perverts though.
I hate it when babies drive themselves home...
Part Wolf...
